Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Thanks for the advice. Thank you for being so supportive! I will login tomorrow and lurk around. I haven't done the tutorials but my enrollment counselor spent an hour going over everything together. We clicked through a sample class together and it made sense to me. I know where to find the class, resources, and help. I do need to download PERRLA tomorrow, can't forget.I talked to a classmate that graduated 1 year before me and she just finished GCU BSN. She said that compared to our program, GCU wasn't bad. She said it is time consuming, but not really hard. This made me relax a little. It is very reassuring to have another avenue of support if I get stuck. My classmate doubled up on every class after the 4th and the only problem she had was when she doubled up with statistics. I don't see me doing this......
If I see anything weird I will post tomorrow.
Wow, doubled up on the remainder? I'm impressed, lol.
Good question, especially for you when it's your first one so you can't really gauge crazytown from normal yet. Read through the Announcement (instructor welcome, their expectations, hints and tips on what they consider "substantive" for DQ replies, APA, etc). It's normal for them to require >100 word responses for DQ replies (to other students), they want to see that you put some thought into your reply instead of just "Great post Susie! I totally agree!" That just doesn't fly anywhere, except I have seen a few of those slip through and just shake my head. It's normal to be required to include a reference for your DQ response (not a reply to another student, but the actual DQ question you answered). It's normal for them to say that Turnitin standards areSo all in all, things that would set my radar off would be things like "there will be an automatic 20% reduction on late assignments", or "any APA errors will be returned and you will suffer 20% penalty when you resubmit w/ corrections", or I think tokmom had one that said you'll end up with a ZERO for some infractions (?). Sheesh man, that's just mean and not conducive to a learning environment.
Anybody else have red-alerts for Rob?
Sounds pretty good, prism!
I am in the third week of my first class and things are going well so far. It seems to be easy to locate the class material, but like it was mentioned before, look through everything before you complete an assignment. PERRLA was a great help on my first paper. I also used write check to check for grammar and plagiarism which seemed to work well. The workload seems to be doable with work and life, at least for this class! Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions.
It will get a tad busier, but even then it's doable. I think it depends how quickly you write.
Has anyone ever had to start their next class before their current one ends? I am in the process of choosing my next two instructors and was told that none of my choices for one of the classes will work out. I was wondering if the reason was that the classes overlapped. Do I need to tell my advisor I would be willing to overlap the two classes in order for it to work out?
I just finished stats and have an issue.....the last workbook assignment had 2 exercises and when I attached them it submit I mistakenly attached separately. So when I submitted I was only able to submit one exercise. I immediately sent an individual message to the instructor and attached the second exercise so she would know I completed it and asked her to reassign the assignment if she preferred them submitted together. I did all this Sunday afternoon Illinois time. She gave me half credit for the assignment and when I emailed her to make sure she received my individual message she replied that despite the missing assignment "I was victorious" and the final grades were submitted. I ended up with an A- for the class but I am fuming that I didn't get any credit for the "missing assignment" that I submitted before it was due and communicated my mistake to her which she has ignored. Any suggestions on if I should let it go or contact my advisor?

So, several questions: Is she saying that you (student) were "victorious" in that you still got an A in the class? Was the "missing assignment" ever graded? Did the "half-credit" for Week 5 take you from an A to an A-?
This is just me, because, well, I'm me, and this is how I think: I would fight for it. To each his own, and no offense to anyone, but I'm not one of those people that just wants to pass with whatever grades I need to pass to get the BSN (as typically my CLC teammates are). The phrase "C's get Degrees" makes my head spin. I'm paying a crapload of $ for this education and I'm taking it for all it's going to give me, and I'm going to bust my hump to be the best at it that I can possibly be. I worked HARD on all those stinkin' assignments and I want them graded (fairly) and applied (fairly) to my overall class grade and GPA because I did the work, I turned it in on time, and I want my hard work evaluated and graded and applied. So yes kwmom, I would call my advisor, tell them exactly what happened, ask for your "missing assignment" to be graded and returned to you, and have that grade applied to your final class grade. And here's why: You did it. You turned it in on time. You made a simple mouse-click-mistake when submitting. You still turned it in, just attached it somewhere else (Indiv Forum). You notified instructor before midnight and asked her to reassign the dropbox (which she can do) if she indeed requires both be submitted to the same place. She didn't answer you. She decided on her own to not accept work that was completed and submitted ON TIME, simply because it was in the wrong spot. Seriously? That's like a ground campus instructor not accepting homework because instead of you placing it in the basket on her desk labeled "put assignments here", you slipped it under her office door or handed it to her personally in the hallway. It's still done, still turned in, the instructor has possession of it, but it's rejected as a zero because it was not in the almighty basket? And for her to decide (for you) that an A- is fine and you should just be happy with that? I dunno, I could be way off here and my beloved AN'ers may think I'm a lunatic, but I'm sorry, this is me and how I think things should go, particularly because I've seen other instructors do it for other students. My real only gripe about GCU is that different instructors get to decide how they will apply rules in their own class. I believe all rules should be universal, and it's highly likely that if you were in someone else's stats class, they would have reopened up that assignment dropbox for you.
