Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Okaaaay... someone in this week's DQ referenced AN for their scholarly resource for their DQ. I mean, at least they gave credit where credit was due, but really? I don't know what people are thinking sometimes. I'd put that in the "dont" column for academic writing, call me crazy.

I'm sure the heat in the bottom of the Canyon made yer brain work all slow like. :roflmao:

Really. AN? That's even worse than Wiki or study mode!!

I am in my fourth class at GCU and every single class, someone uses wiki as a resource and every single time, the instructor makes an announcement to not use it as a credible resource. cracks me up but so does other things too.

And those are the ones that don't read the announcements!

Unbelievable! I am new at all of this and would know better!

My first class starts Monday... Wow, I am excited! Hope I can get this done with family and work.

I read that I will have access to the class the night before (Sunday). How do I tell if the instructor will be reasonable. Not looking for the easiest, just one that is reasonable and someone I can work with.

I will be lurking for the responses.

Hi Rob, the classrooms usually open up for viewing on the Friday night before (some may be different but that's my experience), so go & check it out and see if you can spy it now! Oh wait - according to the GCU Tech Support FB page there is maintenance right now unti 1230am and you can't get in through your student portal, but can get in through LoudCloud directly (I tried to post the link but for some reason I can't). Have you had the LC tutorials so you know where all the info is? Like announcements, student roster, class wall, assignment descriptions, syllabus, etc? Don't be afraid to click all over the place in there, you won't hurt anything, but DO NOT do not DO NOT (just don't) "enter" any information anywhere. Don't post anything, don't TYPE anything. Just click around and lurk. If you post/type/leave tracks of any sort, you are considered IN that class and there's no getting out of it.

BTW, KEEP handy the GCU Tech FB page, a wealth of information to check before you call or set up a chat with IT if something is going wrong: GCU Tech Support Facebook

What prism says. If you see something that makes your hair curl, call your advisor and switch.

Good question, especially for you when it's your first one so you can't really gauge crazytown from normal yet. Read through the Announcement (instructor welcome, their expectations, hints and tips on what they consider "substantive" for DQ replies, APA, etc). It's normal for them to require >100 word responses for DQ replies (to other students), they want to see that you put some thought into your reply instead of just "Great post Susie! I totally agree!" That just doesn't fly anywhere, except I have seen a few of those slip through and just shake my head. It's normal to be required to include a reference for your DQ response (not a reply to another student, but the actual DQ question you answered). It's normal for them to say that Turnitin standards are

So all in all, things that would set my radar off would be things like "there will be an automatic 20% reduction on late assignments", or "any APA errors will be returned and you will suffer 20% penalty when you resubmit w/ corrections", or I think tokmom had one that said you'll end up with a ZERO for some infractions (?). Sheesh man, that's just mean and not conducive to a learning environment.

Anybody else have red-alerts for Rob?

Thanks for the advice. Thank you for being so supportive! I will login tomorrow and lurk around. I haven't done the tutorials but my enrollment counselor spent an hour going over everything together. We clicked through a sample class together and it made sense to me. I know where to find the class, resources, and help. I do need to download PERRLA tomorrow, can't forget.

I talked to a classmate that graduated 1 year before me and she just finished GCU BSN. She said that compared to our program, GCU wasn't bad. She said it is time consuming, but not really hard. This made me relax a little. It is very reassuring to have another avenue of support if I get stuck. My classmate doubled up on every class after the 4th and the only problem she had was when she doubled up with statistics. I don't see me doing this...... :nailbiting:

If I see anything weird I will post tomorrow.
