Grady RN Residency - Summer 2020

Published

Hi everyone! Is anyone else in the process of applying to Grady Memorial’s RN residency program that’s set to start this August?

I may be impatient (?!) but I applied a little over a week ago and have yet to hear back.

Has anyone heard anything back? Or for anyone who went through the process for Winter 2020, how long did it take you to hear back?

I am so sorry ? Let me know if you want someone to talk or vent to... I'll be around just checking my emails and doing some online work these next couple of days.

I recently received the rejection to what I thought was my dream job, too - at my own hospital! I called HR to inquire what it was that failed to land me a spot, and it turned out that I was actually given the thumbs-up from everyone who interviewed me (peer interview). They wanted me in. Just turns out that there were only 5 spots available, and two of those spots went to the technicians already working in that unit. So technically only 3 spots. They had a huge influx of already-ICU-experienced RNs apply and decided it was best to go with people who already had experience, rather than new grads. The manager emailed me and asked me to keep reaching out to her, and she'd get me in as soon as possible. It still stung like h*** though, not going to lie.

I'd reach out to HR when you're feeling up to it. Simply ask if there is anything in particular you can work on to better improve yourself as a future applicant to the department again. Chances are that they'll simply state they had people with experience apply, and that it had nothing to actually do with you! It sounds like you genuinely interviewed well.

Everyday is a chance to improve ourselves and make a comeback from the worst setbacks in our life. It's OK to break down and cry, just as long as you remember to pick yourself back up again. You'll be in ICU eventually. Frustrating that it'll take longer, sure. And again, it's OK to be upset. I'm thinking about you chica. Keep your head up.

I got an email saying that I got placed on the alternate list. Did anyone get that email?

Yes I did.

Specializes in ICU, CCU.

That's what it actually was. Placed on an alternate list, not actual rejection. My mind just saw it as rejection because I didn't see congratulations LOL

Nooooo ? LOL I’m chopped liver over here! I’m assuming I’m receiving no offer at all since I haven’t heard anything back.

Oh gosh! I guess it was rejection. Honestly I did my best. The interview was so jacked up. They could see me but I couldn’t see them. Awkward! I have another job that I took in case of this but I really wanted this position. Sucks!

So did you check your junk mail? Mine went in there.

Wait, I’m so confused! What is alternate list exactly?

So it just means if someone declines the offer, the next person would be on the list to get it. It also says if you didn’t interview for another dept and you wanted to then we would email you about that.

Ooh OK. That still sounds good to me, though! If you can wait it out, I would do so!

and I just checked my spam folder, but nada. That’s OK though! I’ll still give them time to send either a formal acceptance or rejection letter before I make my next move.

Oh! Were any of you guys interviewing for MICU, btw?

I interviewed for trauma/surgical ICU
