This is a little off topic but I can't think of a better place to ask. My sister is graduating from nursing school this Thursday. I would like to get her a practical gift. Preferably something that others wouldn't think of getting her. I already thought of scrubs, shoes and a bag to carry her stuff in but I feel that these are things she needs to pick out for herself. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated. Think along the lines of something you wanted for your own graduation gift. Thank you in advance.

A Vacation!
But, if that is out of the price range, maybe a gift certificate to a uniform store, or money towards taking the state boards. (They are expensive!)
Or if she enjoyed reading for pleasure before starting school, some of the good books she's missed out on.
I am graduating in a few weeks and those are some of the things that come to mind.

How about a subscription to a nursing journal, like AJN or RN?
My grandmother got me a touching gift when I graduated, it was
a charm bracelet with an RN charm. Every year she adds another
nursing related charm. I love it !

We don't wear nurses watches anymore (well most here don't) but I have a little keychain watch in the shape of a teddy-bear with the watch in his tummy. (Yeah I know too cute) It cost less than $20 and was available from Bg W (Woolworths). Teh best part is that becasue it is a keycahin it clips to my name badge

How about a stethascope (sp?) , or money to help pay for boards.. they are expensive ($380.00 here in FLA). Or a palm pilot for her to use when she gets a job, (I got one as a graduation gift, and I LOVE it!) it comes in really handy! Just a few Ideas!

I like the charm bracelet idea. My dear best friend always gives me a nurse doll or figurine for my birthday. I have 30 of them now.
Practical stuff is OK, but to me it's kind of like getting a blender or a weed whacker for my birthday when I'd rather have a night gown or diamonds :)

I bought myself some graduation gifts, which I have really enjoyed. Maybe they will give you some ideas.
1) A 14k gold chain w/ 14k caduceus and RN pendant.
2) An old fashioned pin-on nurse's lapel watch.
My MIL bought me a sterling nurse's cap charm and a graduation diploma charm, which I had engraved with my degree and graduation date.
A spa day for the two of you would be fun. You could get pedicured and manicured together!
After all the "practicality" of so many years in school, I would imagine that your sister might enjoy something unpractical, like a spa day!
But, of course, I don't know her. =0)

I like the spa idea. Money always spends so if you want to be practical that is the best choice - IMO.
