  1. Anyone out there have any info/experience with PSA? I am considering a part time position with them to pick up a little extra money. Any imput, good or bad would really help! Thanks!
  2. I was born in Pittsfield!!! I am a nurse, and I have "been" to BMC, but I live in Florida and have for 30 years..... So I really cannot help you on this one! I just thought it was cool to see a post about the home town! My family still lives there though..... I miss it sometimes in the summer, but I still LOVE florida, been here 30 years!!
  3. Where I work, Nurses have to wear navy or royal blue scrubs with a white lab coat, techs wear teal or cranberry scrubs with a matching lab coat. White lab coats are reserved for the nurses. This works well to us employees as we can recognize each other, but I don't think the patients have a clue!
  4. ANYONE, I repeat, ANYONE who can put a 16g in an A/C in the back of moving vehicle at 3am and going code three, has my vote!
  5. The ED there is CRAZY.. (the only level 2 In the area!) The statistic is 340-350 patients a day in the ED! Thats what they told us in a memo.... GOOD LUCK!
  6. Worked there for a year! I had a great nurse manager that really supported the use of LPN's! I live an hour away and had difficulties getting my daughters to school on time, thats the only reason I quit! Their really wasn't alot of hoopla about the union ,that I can remember... LRMC got me my IV class and my central line certification... I say go for it, remembering that ALL hospitals (not to mention all employers!) have some issues! I never recieved any medical/dental benefits, I opted out... got an extra 52.00 in my check every payday.... They had good diffs, I can't remember the exact amount ! I was a new graduate when I walked in the door.... I got alot of great experience there... The other nurses there are also very friendly (mostly)!! hope this helps!
  7. I obviously expect way too much from the one that works on my unit!! She is the laziest oxygen thief I've ever met!! I have to find her every time I have orders that I need taken off, or most times I just do them myself! Just my opinion about the one I work with, but I'm sure there are some great ones out there!!! Oh, how I wish I worked with them!!
  8. Just a quick question.... Your son is 3 years old, and you are just weaning him????
  9. Do you work at ORMC by chance???
  10. All of the above, but I really found the folding of towels or socks in a basket worked really well to occupy their time. We had an alzheimers patient that was very loud and combative if she wasn't otherwise occupied, so we got a laundry basket full of socks and towels and told her that she needed to "do" the childrens laundry, and she would sit there and mate the socks and fold the towels. When she was finfished, we would un-do everything she had done and she would start over again!... she also like to color, do childrens puzzles, blocks, etc... Good luck with your presentation!

  12. Check to see if your can "challenge" your state's Paramedic boards. I think it depends on what Paramedics can do in your state ie..intubations etc......
  13. My thoughts exactly!! Oh, yea, by the way, there are now 6 rights! 1) right med 2) right time 3)right dose 4)right patient 5) right route 6)right documentation Always, always, always, have heparin and insulin and every other med that you are not sure of double checked by a second set of eyes!! It's worth that little extra time to do it, or you could spend that time later explaining why you screwed up!

We have a guy known as "Jimmy the fish". He goes into a bar, runs up a tab, and then fakes a seizure when it's time to cash out flops around like a fish all over the place, they call 911 and the paramedics take him to the hospital.... then he doesn't have to pay his tab! Haven't seen or heard of him lately, not since the last paramedic told him he was in "heart failure, and they were going to "shock" him..!!!! He immediately got up, and left!!
