3.4 gpa-doomed?

Published

I have recently gone back to college to become an RN, and my previous school record wasn't the most stellar. :/ But my program itself (cytology) that I did previously, I rocked it...but because of the past prereqs which were not so hot, I'm only sitting at 3.4 gpa and have retaken all I have to able to....

Just curious if others have gone through the same, and am I likely looking at an uphill battle to get in?

Thanks!!!!!

Do you know how your words affect others? You could very well have caused someone who would make a great nurse to give up on their dreams because community college is the only option for them.

Ok let's not go nuts here....if someone actually gives up on becoming a nurse through community college ADN programs because of a random remark from some insensitive fool on the internet, that's on them. You can't be that weak if you're ever going to get anywhere in life.

I think you missed the point. You never know how your words affect other people. Most people are weak until they find their strength.

I have a young family member who couldn't get into their university of choice. I talked to her about community college for prerequisites and to establish a decent GPA before applying again. She said she didn't want to go because her friends all said dumb people go to CC. She is a brilliant girl but young and impressionable. She is super shy and was very sheltered. I bullied her into taking one semester at the CC. After that semester she found herself and she is thriving. I think she'll go pretty far because she has people in her life to encourage her. It has become so easy to discount people because they are perceived as weak when all they need is a push in the right direction.

Words hurt but they also heal. It's all in how you use them.

Wow, I guess my program didn't get the memo about slack community colleges, or maybe they wouldn't have just kicked my a** for two solid years to get my ADN. I graduate tomorrow and let me tell you, there wasn't anything easy about it. I'm fortunate to have survived and I worked my tail off for it. We started with 60 and we graduate 36, I believe. So if it was easy, I doubt we would have lost almost half the class.

That's a fine GPA. What really matters is how your TEAS/HESI score match up to your GPA.

Today, everyone has a 4.0 b/c they go to community colleges that are not challenging or cheating is rampant.

The Universities know this, that is why it is important they your test scores line up with your grades from class.

This is direct from the mouth of the person that interviewed me for my program.

Best of luck.

I'm sorry, my 4.0 which I achieved without cheating begs to differ. Worked my butt off for it. Sorry, if that is not what someone told you, but cheating is not rampant. I know of people who do, but for the most part in my program, we work our tails off for our grades. I feel sad if that is the kind of school you go to.

Isn't that kinda funny? I am at a community college and my micro professor also teaches at the state university. He said the exam he gave at that university, he also gave to us with no changes whatsoever. The university class average on that test? 68%. Now what about my class? The average was an 86%.

Yep. Terrible generalization on your part.

I've taken courses at two community colleges during the summer after attending a 4 year university and yes those community college courses were far easier. So it's nothing wrong with attending a CC but yes the courses are easier. But if telling yourself they aren't helps you sleep better at night then go right ahead.

You are aware she didn't say that but an interviewer did right?

EXCUSE ME!!! I go to a community college! I went to a university for 2 years. Been at the cc for 2 1/2 years. I can tell you that the community college is just as hard and some classes harder & as far as cheating, the same rules apply. & it's extremely offensive to me and the teachers that work at community colleges for you to say that. None of my professors would EVER put up with cheating.

One time someone got the test and the school changed every single test. Please think before you say things like that.

Maybe some do those things but I promise there are universities that do it also.

Oh boy. Gonna start a bowl of popcorn for this one. And I thought ADN vs BSN was interesting!

To answer the OP-you are going to be fine.

As for the CC comment-guess the schools in my area, including the IVY leagues in my area, must have a terrible time accepting cheaters into their esteemed universities.

And I wonder WHY to adjunct teaches who also teach at said universities teach CC students as well??? Perhaps to help them cheat their way? Really? :wacky:

OK...if that's what people want to believe...

I actually preferred my community college over my nursing school.

There's nothing above 200 level at a CC, so sure they're easier than 300 & 400 classes. However, they are accepted as equivalent by universities, so they can't be much easier than the 100 & 200 classes there.
