So I recently accepted a per diem position as a Clinical Documentation specialist. I come from a background of about half and half med surg and rehab. I asked the recruiter if they would provide job training regarding job functions, workflows, etc and she said, "No, they won't train you."

Am I in over my head? After browsing the ACDIS website, it seems like I may be wildly unequipped to do this job without some training... does it sound a little weird that they want to shove someone right off the dock like that? Although, the recruiter was a bit like a used car salesman as far as the interview went... the interview was about five minutes and she said, "Okay so I'd like to offer you the position..."

What have I gotten myself into?

You know the answer to this.... get out now.

Way, way too many red flags.

I'm not understanding why you applied for and accepted (when you were told training wouldn't be provided) a specialized job that you are unfamiliar with and can't perform the job functions of.

I'm a clinical doc specialist, no way can you do it without at least some training. I had three months of FT training and even then I still needed help.

^^ This.

Specializes in Case Manager/Administrator.

Not sure if you have had expertise with audits but you will be reviewing for completeness, accuracy and documentation consistency that supports what is being coded. This type of job is highly desirable and can be taxing, you must be a person that pays attention to every little detail and be able to correct those deficiencies or account for them. Records generally document disease/injury acuity and risk of mortality. If you do not have the traits of being a perfectionist then you will struggle. Any job that does not train even for several days is a red flag. I would really be wary of this new employer because when I hire for this type of position I want the most nitpicky person I can find. If that is you then I would train to ensure the organization vision/strategy is being upheld...all must be on the same sheet of music so to speak.
