I am a recent ADN grad with a Bachelor's in Biology and Psychology. I had a mediocre GPA that I managed to make competitive with my excellent nursing school grades. I have worked at a major children's research hospital for 8 years. I chose the ADN program because it was my only option for a nights/weekend program. I have NOT been able to get a job since graduating in December even at the hospital I currently work at. Under significant family pressure, I applied to medical school mostly because I never thought I would get in and could convince my family to let it go. Well, I got in!!! Through my shock, I asked my medical school contact why and he said my educational background coupled with my extensive research background made me the ideal candidate for medical school.
But, I'm not good enough to be a nurse. How does that work??
Might been mean, but I am very much looking forward to seeing those nurse managers who wouldn't hire me as a nurse when I am a MD!!!!!
In my opinion, the system is clearly flawed. Excluding ADN's is a huge disservice to the profession. We may have more to bring to the table than given credit for!!
Jen, go GET SOME girl! **** the POlice!!!
Ha, Ha. Funny how day after day I find as well, that the nursing profession lacks critical thinkers... LOL!!! (Now, how could that be?) Seems if you are smart, you are at the bottom of the list. I think that there is a profile they try to keep in mind when hiring. They don't want people who hunger for REAL knowlege, and who want to excel. They want they "type" who is content with being a grunt as a life goal. They have to be able to look at you and see a waitress/housekeeper/babysitter if they "feel" that there is really any spark in ya, you haven't got a chance in ****.
Go be all you can be!!!
Why not bridge to BSN/APN? Just asking.....And, I agree with another poster that you holding an ADN probably had nothing to do with not getting hired, but instead the economy is the culprit. While I wish you well, I'm thinking your statement about the nurse manager who wouldn't hire you seeing you as a MD sounded vindictive.....hope not, because it just fulminates the us against them mentality and that's not good. It's supposed to be about the patient and family and not us.

Why rain on her parade? She got into medical school. Be happy for her and congratulate her. It sounds like it's what she wants.

*** They won't be suprised. A great many physicians don't have what it takes to be a good RN (and the opposit is true as well)
