Birkenstock has a professional pair in white called the "London" that retail for $150.00. But u can shop around online for this brand and get a deal. Pretty expensive but your feet aren't likely to complain! Also check out Rockport. Aboutnursing.com has a link for shoes too. Hope this helps!

Thanks Amybethf ...never even thought about Rockport...I have a pair of walking shoes that I love from them...several years old and wouldn't pass as nursing shoes but I will look into them for the nursing shoes...

Someone here suggested Dansko but I have heard mixed reviews on them.

And Danskos are certainly very expensive, too!! I bought a pair for school, and while I don't remember being given the "closed heel; no slip-ons" guidelines, I'm starting to worry and wondering if I'd be just as happy with a good pair of white Reeboks (my personal favorite tennie). Besides, with all the other money I'm spending to get ready for the fall, I'm thinking that $35 v. $105 is starting to make more and more sense!!

Good luck!!

For such a long time I was hearing good things about Z Coils (they have a coil built into the heel. I heard that it was awesome for those who have low back and knee problems; however, I've heard that they aren't so good because IV lines and O2 tubes have been caught in the coil. I was wanting a pair for when I started school

Has anyone heard anything about these? I'd love to know what the latest word about Z Coil is... Thanks!!

No kidding on the prices...I looked at some of the prices of nursing shoes and was shocked...I mean I already have to buy the uniforms (which does nothing for my big butt anyways :uhoh3: ), buy the books which even used are costing an arm and leg, and now the shoes...lol....I will have to take a second morgage out soon and I haven't even started classes...I don't know how I'm going to get through this...:monkeydance:

I had checked into z coils a while back but decided against them for now because of price. Their website says you can have the spring on any of their shoes closed in so you don't have the problems like you mentioned. Haven't seen any that have been like that though.

I have a pair of Dansko clogs but I haven't seen them in white but it doesn't mean there aren't any. I love mine, soooo comfy. I am one of those girls that buy $$$ shoes but I get every penny use out of them. I love my Birks and Dansko shoes. So check out these and Rockports or get a good pair of tennies. Good luck!

I have read other postings about shoes and some folks are just as happy with some form of a tennis shoe as they are the fancy shoes, which is what got me thinking of returning the Danskos...they are kinda' "cute" though (which my husband said should definately be the criteria for shoes that I'll be on my feet with for hours on end -- NOT!!).

Anyway, just wanted to say that I sympathize with the uniform thoughts and wondering how to get through this financially....I keep hearing "try not to work"....nice sentiment except I don't know how long I can get away without the repo man finding my car and the gas station letting me do driveoffs without paying before I'm caught!! :jester:

Good luck to us all!!

Thanks for the update about Z Coils, Lana. And yes, I have been turned off about the price (I couldn't even FIND a current price and i know that they are over $200). However, if I get a well paying job and really like it, I would see Z Coils as an investment in that they wouldn't irritate my back problems or knee problems.

Check out this site: www.amegamall.com

They have all the nursing essentials. The 'Rocker' by Cherokee has decent prices for shoes.
