ghost question

I am not really sure why the thread I am about to link you starts out talking about nursing informatics, but it was effectively derailed into 154 pages of nursing ghost stories!

Well...Ive worked at the same LTC facility for 9 yrs now and I can tell you several things that I have encountered. Once when I was an aide there I was in a room with a resident and I KNOW someone yelled my name...I heard it plain as day..so I poked my head out the door and I was the only one on the hall...no other aide, no nurses, no other residents...no one but me. Another time on that same unit, I saw a black blur go by me....like a cat.....turned around and it was gone. Then when I became a nurse, 2 of my aides went to the back hall to the drink machine and the next thing I know I heard doors slam and they came running up to the desk and said they were never gonna go back down that hall again....they swear that they heard footsteps behind them and no one was there. ...to this day when its dark outside they have not went back there ......and thats been 3 yrs ago. Ive never actually been afraid...even when Ive worked 3rd.....its just something you really dont think about when you're there.....I never even told anyone about my experiences for years...not until someone brought it up one night. As for finding someone dead, thats happened a few times on my shift in the past few years but its really not that common I dont think. Usually the ones you find are ones expected and the occasional "didnt see that one coming" happens. You will be fine. :)

As a night nurse I can tell you it is often busier than days. Patients never sleep. LOL

Have never seen a ghost. I have been present at many codes where the patient doesn't make it and it is a sobering experience, but there are lots of people with you.

I always say a prayer for them as they go

No ghosts but definitely Zombies. Undead creatures devoid of all emotion or signs of life that roam the halls of hospitals writing orders.

Residents, Interns, Zombies... all the same really

Like saying Motrin, Advil or Ibuprofen

I don't know if this was a serious question or not, but it's well known that ghosts only haunt the nurses who weren't nice to them. Treat your patients well and you won't have a problem.

One room has been storage for years at our LTC....they never put any resident in there..no matter what. You tell me if it's haunted by the mean lady that was there.

A nurse I work with told a story of elderly patient she took care of that was dying. She was receiving palliative care and had said goodbye to her family. She was on our floor because she was in end stage heart failure and didn't expect to live much longer. We were trying to make her last hours more comfortable since her lungs were filling with fluid. Her family brought her a beautiful white night gown to wear so she would feel more more at ease. This patient had long gray hair and a beautiful smile. She was always smiling when anyone would go into the room, even when she was having trouble breathing.

Anyway, she died peacefully, late one night. The nurse went to call her family to let them know that she had passed. As the nurse was on the phone with family, the patient in the room next door pressed his call bell. When the nurse went to his room to answer the call he said that there was a lady standing at the foot of the bed looking down at him. He wanted to know who she was. When the nurse asked what she looked like, thinking that it may have been another nurse, he said she was wearing a white gown and had long gray hair. He said he asked her what she wanted and then she just dissappeared.

I have worked 3rd shift in ICU for 25 years. No ghosts yet.

I did experience an unusual death that was a tad unnerving. The man was a DNR. He went into asystole. Checked VS, etc. Nothing. Called the house officer to come and pronounce him and turned off alarms on monitor until doctor arrived. About 6 minutes after being in asystole the patient started making this agonizing growling sound. Another nurse and I were afraid to approach his bedside. The doctor came up and asked, "What the he** is that sound?" All 3 of us went in together. The doctor checked. No signs of life at all. The growling continued for about 5 minutes. When I called his mother. She said it was a relief that he died because he had done all these terrible things in life (drugs, rape, stealing, etc) and she hoped he finally found some peace. I didn't tell her about the unusual death. I usually do post-mortem care in indirect lighting. That night the room was ablaze in light. As an atheist I don't believe in heaven or he** so I am sure there is a scientific explanation. But my co-worker was pretty sure that the man went to he** that night.

Those last 2 stories sent shivers up my neck, lol!
