Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread

Published

Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.

A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.

With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.

I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall

Would anyone else like to join me?

MissRNstudent10 - OUCH!! Poor you! Burns are the worst. I hope you feel better quickly.

Fuuchan - I love that phrase: CRAPTACULAR! It's perfect for oh so many occassions! And I'm so sorry to hear about the stuff that's making you stressed. Nobody deserves that. As others have mentioned, life definitely does get better - just keep hanging on until then.

My painful experience of the day doesn't really compare with burns or CRAPTACULAR former spouses, but I've just got to tell it......DH had already left this morning and I was checking email, and I felt this really sore, burning spot on my hip, essentially just above my backside. I thought there was something scratchy on the waistband of my favorite velour sweats, but when I looked in the mirror (how else do you see back there?) I could see a big red ring and a big TICK buried in my flesh! DISGUSTING!! It was in so far that there was no way I could get it out, especially where I couldn't even see the little beast.

I had to be at the hospital at 8, and our family doc's office doesn't open until 8, so I decided to head on in to class and see if I could get an appointment for the afternoon. My instructor took one look at it and told me that I was either going to my doctor's office of going to the ED right away. My doc was able to see me at 11, and took all of the critter and a hunk of me along with him. Local anesthetic, so no pain at the time, but that sucker is burning now. However, I'm glad it's gone! My doc also reassured me that I wasn't being a sissy, that I never would have been able to get that thing out on my own, he needed excision to the tune of $450! Thank goodness for health insurance.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Never a dull moment.

how strange...i found a tick on my 3 year olds neck saturday night but it was barely attached so i was able to remove it myself....it must be that time of the year.

Holy Freaking Cannolli....a tick? I've never had the 'pleasure' but....man...a tick?? Wow, I'm glad you got it off. I just want to say thanks to everyone. Your support means so much to me. Life goes on, yes a I know and it will be sweeter with the initials R.N. after my name. :nurse:

You know, I was thinking (total side note, by the way) that nurses are like ninjas....we sneak in during the night (or day, whatever) and take care of business, plus we know 100 different ways to kill you....

Total side note #2...now I want a cannolli

Maine, I hope you are okay. I always worry about ticks. I live in Pennsylvania and deer ticks are everywhere.....so I worry about lime disease. Hopefully all is good with you.

Fuuchan....girl the Craptacular is just to fabulous! Great word to add to my vocabulary!

Big news for me....well the company I work for is being acquired...bought out see ya hasta la vista! I work for Safeco Insurance and we have been bought by Liberty Mutual. The sad part is my husband sent me an email to let me know before my own employer did and he doesn't work for Safeco. It's always nice when the employees find out last. Needless to say I am stepping up the search for a new job quickly. I have an interview tomorrow and I had a phone interview today. I just so happened to be looking when this all went down.

I hope everyone is having a better day!

I'm not doing so hot this week. I have to have oral surgery tomorrow. I have gotten a lil bit of exercise in but not much. I have been home for 2 days and have eaten all the wrong food.

I hope everyone els is having a good week.

I haven't lost this week so far. I've stayed right at the same weight. Its very frustrating when this happens. I had a bad week last week so its probably just caught up with me. 2 more weeks and I will be done with ANP 102. I'm nervous about my grade and its stressing me out. The program here is very competitive to get into.

The only upside of my week is my daughter told me I'm skinny.... right... over 200 lbs is skinny.... :rotfl: She's comparing me to my ex's wife. I think she's going to think I'm anorexic when I meet my goal of 130-140 lbs.
