Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread

Published

Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.

A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.

With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.

I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall

Would anyone else like to join me?

mines goin pretty good. hopefully i will lose this week..it is so sad how my entire life is wrapped around FOOD. thats all i think about all day..thinking about what to eat what not to eat how much ive eaten its a little bit ridiculous. i need to get a new hobby asap

i know just what you mean! i've been trying so hard to preoccupy myself with other stuff to do so that i do not think about food.

i havent exercised this week at all because of this stupid burn on my foot makes it hurt to walk. ugggh.

and i'm freaking out about my letter too! i dont think that they get sent out until monday, but they could have sent them this week too. it is very stressful!!! it is very competitive to get into the school i want also, but thank goodness they dont look at this semmester's grades before they decide! and if i dont get in, then i am just going to take a&p II over again next semester!

anyone stressed by exams? i have 2 on tuesday, so i will be spending the weekend cramming!

Underwear.....I think it makes a world of difference. I am not talking thongs, or bikini or as I use to go bare back.....I am talking underwear that fits. It may not make you excited when buying it but when you wear it under your clothes and they are the right size all of the sudden you look trimmer and you feel better cause you aren't struggling to pull out the wedge.

What made me think of this today was I was putting on a pair of capris from last spring that I actually able to get into. The first thing I noticed was my new bigger underwear was not riding up and I did not have that unsightly line across the butt of my jeans....try it.

Yesterday when I went to the gym I read an article in self magazine called Happy Weight. Here's a link to the calculator http://www.self.com/fitness/nutrition/calculators/happyWeight

They did an article where women talked about what they thought the should weigh and then the magazine came up with a realistic Happy Weight. Most of us shoot for a goal that is either unobtainable or unsustainable. The idea of the happy weight is to be at a healthy weight that you can keep and not constantly feel as though you are battling food to do it. I did mine and my Happy weight for 5'3" with age children etc is 132. Where did I want to be 125. Check it out and see what you come up with as compared to what you were shooting for.

Have a great Friday ya'll and good luck over the weekend!!

Happy Friday all, I hope you all are feeling good. I'm doing a little bit better. I lost that 1.5 lbs so now I'm back to where I was the week before. I'll take what I can get, I suppose. I'm sitting here at work trying to not dive face first into the donughts someone brought in here.

I saw we all have a by week and not let anything stress us out and see how well we did on Monday. Anyone down for that? :D

I have 2 lab finals next week (A&P2 and Micro) so I expect to see craptacular results on Monday. Anyway, have a good weekend everyone and good luck.

My happy weight is 163 thats cool I thought 150. I will be happy to be in a size 12 again and be able to run around with my kids. Even if the scale is 170 at that point.....lol

Tracylvn:

See knowing what a realistic weight is so much better. The article was cool cause it really smacked you in the face and said 96% of all women have never been happy with their size....and it holds us back from being the best at other things cause it nags us to death.

Have a great weekend all!

Tullosrn.....Congrats at being finished with finals I know its a relief.....

I know Piglet even ppl that are a size 6 are not happy sometime with thier body image. I just want to be healthy and happy. I want to be able to run around with the kids take them to the snow for skiing of snowboarding and ice/roller skating. I can't do to much of that at the size I am at now, it just does not work.....lol I have a pear shaped body and no matter how low the scale says I will never be 8 maybe 10 but then I woul look sick...... I have permanent thunder thighs my family teases me and say I should take up horse back riding cause I alway look like im wearing jodpers( spelling???? the pants the jockey's wear....lol).

Tracylvn,

Girl I am pear shaped too. I get the whole thunder thighs thing! Even when I was smaller I still didn't wear shorts cause of my legs. I was at weight watcher's last saturday and they said why are you here. I said, "Cause I want to wear shorts this summer." Certainly isn't a grandoise idea.

I agree the best thing is to be healthy and happy!

We will be shorts this summer piglet.....we will be happier and healthy......

Everyone will be wearing shorts this summer..... Think I may go out and buy a cute pair and use it for motivation......lol Hang them on my wall were I can see them everyday.

today was so miserable and embarrassing!!! I had to try on bridesmaids dresses and can anyone please tell me why the dress that fit was 2 sizes bigger than my everyday clothes?? i was mortified to say the least of course a bunch of skinny girls was running around...if that wasnt motivation idk what is. only 4 months left til wedding and i really dread it! is it too late to back out??lol id rather serve punch or something.

Tullosrn,

Don't sweat that number. It's not good for you! All Bridesmaid and wedding dresses run small....I am not sure why but your difference in numbers sounds like how I remember it years ago.

You will get where you want to be in the next four months and then they will have to take that dress in :D

I hope everyone has a great week!!!
