Help with Project -- need certified nurses!
hello everyone, for my nursing seminar class i am to discuss with someone regarding certification and write a short post for my nursing classmates to read. i am looking for any nurses who are certified to discuss with me the pros and cons of certification (such as gaining certification, maintaining certification, benefits of certification, etc). if anyone is willing to help, that would be wonderful. thank you in advance and looking forward to reading some responses! :)

Will i need a laptop for school?
I never brought my laptop to class... BUT, I feel like I spent a ton of time on my laptop outside of class. So, if you like to study at the library and like everything on your computer at your fingertips, then it would be a good idea. Otherwise, I would just get one of those flashdrives and take with with you to school in case you need your documents saved on your desktop and you need to open them on a school computer.

who's getting ready to graduate????
I feel like I just started...but there are only 46 days of school left (including weekends). I finally am seeing the light at the end of the LPN tunnel and can't wait to start my last year to get my RN. Goodluck with finals everyone! :)

Help with Care Plan Needed
So I have been working on re-doing my nursing diagnoses (thanks for the help :) ) and I am trying to reprioritize them. Here is what I have: 1) Deficient fluid volume (because you can't live without water) 2) Acute Pain (physiological comfort issue) 3) Impaired tissue integrity (another physiological problem) 4) Risk for Injury Let me know what you guys think - I hope I have it right this time. I tried to use Maslow's but I sometimes just confuse myself and think WAY too far into it! :) Thanks again!

Help with Care Plan Needed
hi everyone, so i have been working on a care plan and i am just not quite sure if i am going in the right direction. i'll share what i have thus far, if anyone could give input on what i have and what i'm missing that would be wonderful! case study: -the patient is 79-years-old and lives in ltc. -non-weight bearing, assistance with adl's -hx of recurrent uti's caused by mrsa (received long-term antibiotic therapy) -a&o x 1 -weak -drey skin and mucous membranes -indwelling catheter -dark, concentrated amber urine -temp. 101.3f -p 92, r 28, bp 142/80 -stage iii ulcer on sacrum -grimacing, restless, moaning when asked level of pain i had to come up with 4 nursing interventions and here is what i have: acute pain supporting data: -increased respirations -increased bp -grimacing -moaning -restless deficient fluid volume supporting data: -concentrated dark amber urine -weakness -dry skin and mucous membranes -increased body temperature -a&o x 1 risk for infection supporting data: -chronic uti's and mrsa -broken skin (stage iii ulcer) -living in ltc -catheterization - invasive procedure -tissue destruction (stage iii ulcer) imparied tissue integrity supporting data: (i'm having trouble coming up with data for this) -stage iii ulcer on sacrum -fluid volume deficit -impaired physical mobility another question i have with this is in prioritizing. i know the risk for infection will be 4th, and pain will probably be first. but both deficient fluid fluid volume and impaired tissue integrity are physiological needs so i'm not sure which would go first. any help would be wonderful! thanks in advance!

Healthcare and Election 2008
I have been working on a paper for school about healthcare and the election in November. It made me curious as to what other nurses and nursing students thought about the candidate's healthcare issues. Let me know what you think - I would love to hear other people's opinions on this issue! :)

ethical issues reviewing Grey's Anatomy
There is an ethical issue with Izzie Stevens dating/engaged to a patient. That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread
Hello everyone! Sounds like everyone is getting through finals alright! Just thought I would post my goal of 30 lbs. since I'm starting after my final on May 1st (probably should be held accountable for this! :) ). Speaking of summer classes, mine start on May 28th so I have a little break before I take my dreaded statistics class. blech! I'm definitely NOT excited. Have a great rest of the week! :redbeathe

Would I make a good nurse?
So your story sounds EXACTLY like mine. I took the same courses in High School, wasn't really sure of what I wanted to do with my life. The only difference is is that I LOVED Chemistry (5 semester of it did me in though). I always thought I wanted to go to school for something other than Nursing (med-school, pharm-school, or dent-school). I switched majors around so many times (avoiding nursing because my mother is a nurse and I didn't want to go through what she does), but in the end I decided on Nursing. I was a relatively shy person and wasn't a big fan of phones either. But once you get in a situation like clinicals you lose that fear entirely. You're there to help people and they aren't necessarily judging you...they're depending on you for help. I would say go for it. I would take a Nurse Aide class just to get used to dealing with patients and such. Good luck with graduation and finals! I'm sure you'll do wonderful! :nuke:

Prerequisite Questions- Order, Type of Class, Summer Courses
I would take Developmental Psychology for sure (I thought it was fairly easy and would make a good condensed course). Anatomy and Physiology is a lot to cram into the summer when you are working full time, but if you are ambitious I would say get one out of the way. I have no idea about Stats, I'm taking it this summer (but it's not condensed). :)
