Getting Flack For Not Getting Covid Vaccine

I am trying to feel out if anyone else has declined the Covid vaccine and feeling backlash or tension with other co-workers? I have never heard so much discussion regarding nurse receiving or declining a vaccine in the 12 years I've been a nurse. Not sure why it should even matter but, I am getting a lot of pressure about it. I do not see why I am "crazy " if I made the decision against receiving the vaccine. I also do not understand co-workers pushing the vaccine on me and others, or insisting we are out of our minds.  This is coming from management level as well as staff nurses. I am just appalled at the treatment and many of us who have declined the vaccine have kept to ourselves. For me, personally, I made the choice not to get it and I was done at that. It's been a month into our hospital vaccines and people will not just shut up about it.

Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?

How are you handing this?

Please mind the poor spelling and grammar ?

I haven't read through all the comments, but just wanted to answer the question. Me personally I chose to NOT get the vaccine. I have not had Covid, even after working in a Covid unit for weeks. I have heard several people grumbling about how they can't believe everyone isn't getting the vaccine. I would say at least a third of the staff in my facility chose not to, including one of the owners. I personally have not gotten any backlash because I've only discussed it with maybe 2 other people and as far as I'm concerned it's none of anyone's business who got vaccinated or who didn't. I haven't had anyone ask me, and if they did I would tell them I'm not comfortable answering that question.

Based on your username, I'm guessing you live in Montana? If so, then I'm not surprised by your answer.

It’s interesting to see fellow nurses bullying other nurses either based on where they live or their perception on their education level. It’s sad actually. I personally know doctors who are not getting the vaccine. I myself am not getting the vaccine. I’m OK with others getting the vaccine and I’m OK with others not getting the vaccines. According to the experts you still have to wear a mask and social distance whether or not you get the vaccine.

Not all experts are subscribing to this. I think Fauci’s “we might have to mask until 2023” and double-mask idea is an overreach. I supported him until this nonsense. He needs to stop making statements like this. It isn’t helping.

Then perhaps if everyone got the vaccine this would be unnecessary.

So, is the purpose of getting vaccinated to get out of mask wearing or is the purpose of getting vaccinated to avoid getting sick with COVID?

Because from all the misery I've seen on a COVID unit, I'm quite satisfied with the prospect of *just* staying healthy as a result of being vaccinated. Getting rid of masks once we reach herd immunity is just a bonus.

Has anybody else watched the ZDogg interview with Dr. Monica Gandhi on the pandemic ending? Very good stuff.

Oh, for Pete’s sake, I wasn’t bullying her about where she lived! I lived in Montana - people there are, by and large, libertarian and anti-government intrusion. There is a high percentage of vaccine hesitancy there. It was just a freakin’ statement of fact.

I suppose if you thought the only purpose of a vaccine was to be able to stop wearing masks, then I could understand the lack of incentive to take it, but that's just a secondary perk, the main purpose is to get us out of a pandemic.

And pointing out false or misleading claims being made about Covid and/or the vaccine is not "bullying", it's advocating for public health, a core part of what nurses do.

While the chart upthread is very nice and professional sounding,

The vaccine *was* rushed.  Meaning it went to market the fastest of any vaccine before this.  For a disease that at the time was less than a year old.

So it comes down to your definition of “rushed”.

There is no long term safety data.

I am getting my second dose of Pfizer tomorrow. I have also been volunteering with my local Medical Reserve Corps to give vaccines at mass vaccination events. I am not going to shame anyone who doesn't want the vaccine. I will just continue to vaccinate the willing. ?
