Hey guys!

How about we start a Spring 2008 graduates thread? I noticed the 2007 class had a thread on this so I thought it might be fun to start ours.

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

Will you work before you take the boards?

Have you started applying for jobs?

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

What gift would you like to give urself?

Here I go...

I graduate in June and plan to take the boards in August

I will not work while studying for the boards. I have a friend who started in the MICU before taking the boards, and 2 months later she still does not feel ready to take it:o

I planned on applying in January, but I think I might start now since UCLA has now created a wait list for new grads:uhoh3:

I plan to work in a MICU, noc shift

Gift? I would like a puppy. I always wanted one

when do you plan to take the nclex? probably as soon as possible after graduation.

will you work before you take the boards? i honestly don't know; if something's offered and they prefer i start right away, then i probably will.

have you started applying for jobs? i have some shadows set up during break @ a children's hospital to see if i truly have an interest in working there. i know these are coveted jobs, so will have to start applying soon if i decide that's what i want. if i don't feel it's a good fit, i'll probably start applying for med/surg jobs later in the semester after talking/visiting a few local hospitals.

where do you plan to work? unit and shift? not sure, but i am not an 0700 person and will be glad when clinicals are over!!

what gift would you like to give yourself? a break!!

good luck all; it seems like yesterday i was wondering if i'd ever make it this far!!

I just took semester 3 finals today and the feeling of relief is so intense!! I dont rememeber feeling this way after any of my other finals!

I graduate May 17 and plan on taking the boards ASAPafter graduation.

I will have to begin work if at all possible- I am soooo broke!

I have not yet begun officially job hunting but have been placing feelers

I think I will work in OR like I wanted to before I began. But I have an opportunity to work at a large clinic days so I just dont know anymore!

I will be probably giving myself a maid service as a gift- complete overhaul and cleaning out- then new floors and a REAL vacation in the summer with the kids and grandma for them putting up with me all thru this.

hello fellow spring grads! i graduate may 9 and i can't wait.

when do you plan to take the nclex?

i plan to take them shortly after graduation but i guess it depends on my job situation since most hospitals pay for your boards and give you 60-90 days once hired to pass

will you work before you take the boards?

i am hoping to get into an intern program which allows you to start training before you pass boards. i am not sure yet how that will work because i am getting married on june 7 and i am sure they won't like the fact i will be taking a honeymoon.

have you started applying for jobs?

i have started to get my feelers out there for jobs. i have talked to the nurse recruiters at the hospitals i am interested in and they start interviewing in february.

where do you plan to work? unit and shift?

i would love to work in surgery or critical care. i will be working nights wherever i end up.

what gift would you like to give urself?

i will be getting a few gifts shortly after graduation: i will be getting married & going to cabo for 8 days. we will also be buying a house (can't get out of this apartment soon enough!). after all of that is over i will be buying a new car.

A month or two after graduation...not sure yet.

Will you work before you take the boards?

Not too sure, I will be moving somewhere so I'm not positive I can handle the stress of moving/taking boards at the same time but I may need the money.

I have started looking but not applying. I will probably apply very soon though.

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

I want to work in critical care, at this point, preferably SICU. Don't care whether its morning or night too much.

What gift would you like to give yourself?

I have a whole list of gifts from out of my league purses to mac makeup to a new car...but they will not be coming all at once.

Hello Class of 08' !!I never thought that I would be here to post one of these.When do you plan to take the NCLEX?I will be graduating in May! Yes! I plan on taking the boards in July.Will you work before you take the boards? I am debating this because I don't want to fail and have an obligation to an employer.Have you started applying for jobs?I have been doing a little research. I won't actually start applying until Jan.Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?I plan on working in a hospital setting. I really really want to work Labor and delivery or mother baby. But I keep getting advise to get some med-surg in first. I don't want to do that, but that's probably what I will do. I am flexible with the shifts.What gift would you like to give yourself?I want to spend my first check on just myself and my family. That would be my gift. Bills have waited this long, it can wait one more check.CONGRATS ALL for making it this far!!

not, sure. i have a vacation lined up for may, june, and july so i have no idea.

nope, i'm waiting to see what the hospitals are going to start offering us new grads.where do you plan to work? unit and shift?

I have one med/surg job thats a definite but I am going to apply to a NICU in Jan.

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

Med/Surg possibly- evenings or nights

NICU (if possible) whenever they need me

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

So thrilled that I belong here! I'll graduate in May, probably taking the NCLEX in June but I am not sure when yet.

Will you work before you take the boards?

I have an internship, so I'll work there until I graduate. After that I do plan to work as a GN until I pass the NCLEX.

Have you started applying for jobs?

Nope. Probably won't for a little while. I already have the internship, and I also accepted a scholarship in exchange for a 2 year work commitment, so I don't feel horrible pressure to start applying just yet.

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

L&D, hopefully night shift but I'll take days. I am not a fan of the waking up at 5 AM thing, I'd rather work nights given the choice.

What gift would you like to give urself?

A trip to disney with my kids and husband! We're already planning it.

When will I take the NCLEX? I graduate in May '08, so I'm gonna take it ASAP!!

Will I work before I take the boards?? No I don't plan on it. I am going to take the review course and then NCLEX right after.

Have you started applying for jobs?? I have talked to supervisors in hospitals that I've done clinicals in, but have not actually applied anywhere. At our school, we've been told by our instructors that we will be RECRUITED hot & heavy right after Christmas. Soooo, will see how that goes.

Where do u plan to work? And what shift?? Personally, I plan on working med-surg for a yr. then going from there. I want to either do L & D or ICU. I know, big difference. I just think we all need a little more experience in our skills before we specialize in any certain field. But that is also the opinion I have gotten from many graduates from yrs. past.

What gift would I like to give myself?? My husband and I are planning on taking a beach vacation with our two boys. Basically my family's life has been put on hold for 2 yrs. and we ALL need a much needed vacation!!

i'm not sure, i would love the experience, but i don't want it to compromise my passing of the boards.

not yet, but i think i will start doing some research first, before i apply anywhere.

unfortunately med/surg, but eventually i would like to go to peds.

unit and shift? peds/ 0700a-0700p, but probably have to start on nights.

what gift would you like to give urself? not just myself, but my family. i would love to do a vacation. however, if that can't be accomplished i would love to take them out to eat to a fancyshmancy restaurant, some thing financially i haven't been able to do.

our pinning ceremony is 4-24-08 with graduation 4-25 and i can't wait. i hope to take the nclex in june.

i have been working 40hrs/week and attending school full time since i entered the program.

i need to get in one year as a nurse to boost my retirement and complete my 30th year with the gvmt. i'll probably do a year in urgent care for county and pick up extra shifts at local hospital. i want to work at the new kaiser hospital in modesto that is supposed to open late 2008. my dream job would be same day surgery and/or er. i'm an adrenaline junkie.

what gift would you like to give yourself?

i already drove it!! a new infinity g37s. my car is going to my grandaughter as a high school graduation gift.

Where do you plan to work?

not sure because I have to move for a few months (my husband is in the Army and stationed elsewhere, and we are going to spend a few months together before he deploys again)

Unit and shift?

hopefully the NICU, but not sure about the shift

What gift would you like to give urself?

I am giving myself a few months off to be with my husband and son before my husband deploys, then moving back home to start my new job!! oh... and a NEW CAR!!!
