I graduate in June and plan to take the boards in August
I will not work while studying for the boards. I have a friend who started in the MICU before taking the boards, and 2 months later she still does not feel ready to take it:o
I planned on applying in January, but I think I might start now since UCLA has now created a wait list for new grads:uhoh3:

Where do you plan to work?
well, I like ICU and L&D but I am probably going to do my 1-2 years of Med/Surg until I figure out what I want to do. I have heard it to be invaluable and I also heard you get pulled to a med/surg floor no matter where you work if the #'s are low and I don't want to sink!
Unit and shift?
Med/Surg......I would love days........two 12's and two 8's (but we'll see what I can find)
What gift would you like to give urself?
I want a Coach purse with a matching wallet. I also can't wait to buy cute scrubs!! And I want to take a vacation with kids and husband sometime within the next year.

I graduate June 08. I'll be taking the NCLEX ASAP. I'm going to start applying for jobs before I graduate. I'd like to work in dialysis, but I'll take anything right now. I can't wait to spend more time with my kids when I graduate!

I'm graduating mid-May, so I think we do the NCLEX in July.
I've always worked through NS, so I will have to continue...
I'm working on my resume package now and will contact local hospitals over January break...
I don't have any specific hospital in mind - as long as it's not too far from my house (I've been driving up to 120 miles /day between home, work and school this year!). I've decided to do the Med/Surg year even though I don't particularly want to... evenings!!! I'm not a morning person at all. I like the idea of 12 hour shifts.
I'm buying myself a car that doesn't scare the crap out of me when I have to drive in the snow! (it's been snowing a lot and it
s not even January yet)

No- I worked as a SN last summer & may do so again after graduation as a GN. They offer board prep classes & had a 100% pass rate last year.
Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?
Not sure - My boss from last summer has hinted there may be openings in that dept, but I don't know how well the hours work with my kids. It's a wonderful dept, but I worry I will lack fundamentals if I don't do med-surg for a while. I have also been advised by experienced nurse friends to look for a really good training program at a larger hospital.

A nice trip for my family for putting up with my awful schedule for the last two years!
