Hey guys!

How about we start a Spring 2008 graduates thread? I noticed the 2007 class had a thread on this so I thought it might be fun to start ours.

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

Will you work before you take the boards?

Have you started applying for jobs?

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

What gift would you like to give urself?

Here I go...

I graduate in June and plan to take the boards in August

I will not work while studying for the boards. I have a friend who started in the MICU before taking the boards, and 2 months later she still does not feel ready to take it:o

I planned on applying in January, but I think I might start now since UCLA has now created a wait list for new grads:uhoh3:

I plan to work in a MICU, noc shift

Gift? I would like a puppy. I always wanted one

Now, Spring class of 2008 tell us what your plans are! 1, 2, 3, GO...

Specializes in ICU,Oncology,School,.

Welcome Jess & Good luck with your move.

Hey all soon to be nurses! I also will graduate in May, havent decided when to take my boards. When I finished LPN I waited about a month and a half. I want to work critical care, I will probably be working between graduation and boards. I havent thought about graduation gifts though. I guess at this point the greatest gift would be getting through this semester, and still having my sanity. Got a question for all of y'all...Do any of you have to take the HESI exit? How do y'all study for it? MY first exit is in March. I am more nervous about it than anything else. I took it in LPN(twice) and I really dont like HESI tests. Took 4 last semester, and have 2 other than the exit this semester. Good Luck to everybody!!

when do you plan to take the nclex?

will you work before you take the boards?

i work per diem now but don't go in much with the senior work load in school.

have you started applying for jobs?

yes - started last summer through externships and bummed it up to applying at other hospitals a few months ago. i wanted to make sure i had a good amount of diversity in offers to sort through at places i wanted to be, not forced to be.

where do you plan to work? unit and shift?

i current work in the er at a community hospital - will be working at a childrens hospital in the city after graduation.

is anyone taking a nclex prep course such as kaplan or and if so which one are you taking and why did you pick that one? it's so confusing.

Specializes in Transplant/Surgical ICU.

Wanted to post an update...

The MICU in the hospital I chose to work for had decided that they had enough new grads so they stopped hiring new grads for the spring/summer. So, I had interviews with neuro/trauma ICU and transplant/surgical ICU yesterday, and I got both jobs!!! I have decided that I will go with SICU.

Hope the quarter/semester is treating all you future nurses well. Good luck with midterms, care plans and everything else. Ciao

Specializes in AGNP.

when do you plan to take the nclex?

most likely in july as our practicum is set to end begining of june with a full nclex review course

will you work before you take the boards?

i hope to, i'll still have my prn unit clerk job at the hospital i'm not contracted to till i get that special little piece of paper lol

have you started applying for jobs?

i'm scholarship through a local hospital so we file applications during practicum, if i happen to practicum through them it'll count towards my orientation training

what gift would you like to give urself?

we were set for kaplan but we really liked the hearst (might be spelled hurst) reveiw we saw during nursing convention so we're leaning more towards that one as a class

I heard 's NCLEX review course is HORRIBLE!! Everyone who I knew that that did Drexel's course regrets it. They all said to go with Kaplan.

When do you plan to tak the NCLEX?

We graduate the beginning of May, so I would like to take the NCLEX the middle of June.

Will you work before you take the boards?

No way! I worked 3 12 hour shifts last summer as a nurse extern and realized how exhausting it was! I know I would be too tired to study after working.

Have you started applying for jobs?

Yes, I started a few weeks ago. I had one offer on a tele unit, but I turned it down. The unit didn't "feel right" to me.

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

I'm not sure what kind of unit I want to work on. However I know where I don't want to work- no critical care or long term care for me.

Initally I thought I only wanted to work days. But I now realize I can't be too picky so I'm willing to work nights. At least for the first year or two.

What gift would you like to give yourself?

After graduation I will buy my first car! I want a Nissan Murano!

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

Pinning is May 1, graduation May 2 - I hope to be able to take the NCLEX by the first of July so we can travel by mid-July.

Will you work before you take the boards?

No!!

Have you started applying for jobs?

Yes, and the hospital where I want to work called last week and told me they were sending my completed application to the following units: L&D (my 1st choice and my passion); ED; Surgical (yuck, don't want to work there); OR and Level III NICU. I would do any of the above except surgical. I'm a little afraid to work Level III Nursery though - but I would.

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

I went to nursing school because I wanted to be a L&D nurse. I could work ED, OR or NICU though. I may also consider working in a physician's office. Might be too boring though. I don't know what shift yet - I guess we'll see when I interview.

What gift would you like to give yourself?

For completing nursing school, my husband is giving me (and him and our 4 sons) a trip to Ireland, where I will be meeting some distant relatives. I can't wait!!

I almost can't believe I'm here... it seems like yesterday I was a clueless first year student, not believing I'd ever make it here.
