Northwest NWCC wannabe needs info
You have to take the NET, but your 30 ACT should put you up pretty high on the list. Getting your lab classes out of the way is a good idea. The Nursing department offers classes that are just for Nursing Students to help fill your hours, such as Directed Reading (you have to read and review a certain number of articles) and classes like that. A lot of people I graduated with took easy things like golf, yoga, stuff like that. (I just graduated from there in May.) GOOD LUCK!!

NWCC Fall 08?
I have to agree with TRC's post - you may want to wait until you are in the program a few weeks - at least through your 1st test - to see how much free time you will have. I just graduated in May 2008, and I worked part time, but not the 1st semester. The instructors will tell you NOT to work full time while in the program, but part time should be ok. It's a lot of work, but doable. Just don't let anyone scare you TOO much!! GOOD LUCK!!

I started in August, and I wish I had realized how fast paced it is, and that the workload does not let up. So if I could tell you anything, it would be to use your time wisely, prepare ahead of time for tests, and when you start to feel burned out, set your sights on short term goals like fall break, spring break... whatever it is. I know right now, we are all like "only one more full week until Thanksgiving"!!! If nursing is what you really want to do, don't let the pressure make you quit. Roll with it, and call a fellow student anytime because I GUARANTEE they are thinking/feeling the same thing! (even if that means crying on the phone!) Good luck to all of you!! Hope to see you in the January!!

For those of you in the RN program at NWCC... if you are starting in the fall, have you purchased any thing yet? I know the uniforms are being changed, but I was wondering about the stethoscope in particular. I looked online and there is such a huge span in price... I am afraid to buy the wrong thing. Any suggestions from anyone in the program? Thanks!!!

Actually, they tell you not to take Micro until you have had A&P1 and 2, but Micro worked with my schedule, and I didn't realize that until I was already attending class. I spoke with Dr. Rinaldy about not having the A&P classes and he told me just to stick with it and work hard... I did, and I made an A. If you haven't started the science courses yet, I would definately take them in the right order - get A&P finished first. I'll definately keep you posted!!

I have all the english/history/math stuff finished. I also took Microbiology and the lab last semester to get it out of the way. I am taking A&P I with the lab in the fall with Nursing I and Pharmacology. Most of the people I have talked to say to get the hard science courses out of the way because you won't have to time to devote to them once you start the Nursing courses. The only thing that worries me about that is filling the 12 hour requirement with other stuff each semester. I can relate to the child care issue. Last year my son was with a different person everyday (my mom or dad or my sister-in-law). I am fortunate enough that he starts K-4 at SBEC this year, so the hours are perfect for me with school. It gives me plenty of time to study before I have to pick him up each day.

Thanks for all the advice. I hope I am one of the people that loves it because I am so excited about getting into the program. Right now I work full-time, but I could change to part-time if I need to. I just wasn't sure if I should change before school starts, or wait to see how to schedule is. Your advice really helps. Hopefully I will see you around!
