  1. Aloha, My husband and I are moving from Hawaii to Fayetteville on 7/6. I would be very interested in hearing what you two think of Cape Fear after working there. I won't be working until October because I just had a baby but plan to start applying in August. Good luck to both of you. Michele
  2. Hi all, I'm hoping to hear from a few of you experienced L&D nurses. I'm a new grad starting my 1st job in L&D and I'm so excited yet so scared at the same time! I have a 13 week orientation which is awesome. I just found out after applying for many job and haven't had time to specifically study OB because they are starting me ASAP. I have bought the books and study CD's but I know there's so much that I don't yet know. Any advice for my first few weeks? Thanks to all. Mich
  3. Thanks to both of you!! Have a great week. :)
  4. I'll be taking the ACLS course for the 1st time sometime in March or April. I'm looking to find other's that have taken the course from AMR in Aiea? Can anyone share their experience with me? Is studying from the book for a week or two sufficient? What was the pass rate for your class? As a new grad with no hospital experience, I'm very nervous about this and would love to hear from other's. Thanks so much.
  5. Hi, I'm taking the NCLEX on Dec 17th and have been strictly studying from my Saunders review for the past 2 weeks. I plan to put in about 10 hrs a week studying strictly from this book and with my medication flash cards. Have any of you studies stricly from Saunders with good results? If so, did you feel like the question difficulty was similar or was the NCLEX completely different? I would really appreciate hearing from those of you who used Saunders. Thank & blessings, Michele
  6. Hi KMD, Yes, I have corresponded with a lady from Tripler and she told me that she would be unable to hire me until I have one years experience. They don't hire new grads. So, I'm going to apply everywhere to get that one year experience and then try. I'm still a little anxious as I hear the process may be long for a new grad. Are you moving there in May of '07 or '08? M
  7. Hi Earth, :) I was wondering if you could tell me more about your experience/job hunt in Hawaii. I'm moving there straight out of school so I'm sure it was a little different for me. I would greatly appreciate any info that you might have! Thanks, M
  8. I'm moving to Oahu for the 1st time on May 1st with my husband who will be stationed at Camp Smith. My mother grew up in Hawaii but I have never been. I'm hoping to connect with other nurses/spouses who might be able to tell me a little about their job hunting experience and more. :) I hope to hear from you.
  9. I'm graduating from nursing school in two weeks and will be living on Oahu on May 1st. My husband was transferred with the military. I have been hearing nightmare stories about how hard it is to find a job when you 1st move to the island as a new grad. Is there any truth to this? I'm so excited about starting my first job because I want to gain that experience and begin the learning process. Does it really take months for most new grads to start their first position? I would greatly appreciate any input from the working nurses on this board. Michele
  10. Thank you both very much. :)
  11. Hi all, I will be finishing my nursing degree in one month and I have a question regarding the pre-employment physical. I'm hep-c positive and have been since having a clotting factor after a surgery at 12 years of age. I has been almost 20 years and I'm in great shape with no physical problems. Is this something that will be help against me when I attempt to apply for a job? Also, is it confidential or will it be disclosed to my manager? This is a private matter to me and I'm just wondering who all I'll need to disclose this information too. I would greatly appreciate input from anyone who knows about this. Thank you. Lea
