A couple weeks ago I posted a thread that stated " Can't wait to go to work tomorrow" Man I wish I could take that back now. :o

I was hired for 3-11 shift but during the time of the posting I was training on days. Well let me tell ya, days are so much more laid back than evenings in sub-acute. Mostly because days have a medicine aide, and don't get any admissions. 3-11 nurses don't have a medicine aide and we drown in admissions.

Hopefully today I will have a great day at work. Don't look forward to going but I shall do my best. :nurse:

It will get easier. Evenings in subacute are hectic and sometimes barely controlled chaos, but you will get fast at doing admissions and it will be okay. Good luck!

It was always my experience that 3-11 was the busiest shift. Remember I am not saying that because I never worked any other shift. I worked nights and days as well as evenings. All shifts are busy, all shifts work short staffed. But evening shift was not just busy or short staffed, I would have to call it crazy. Even at my mom's personal care home there is plenty of staff from 6a to 6p. However, at 6pm everybody goes home and then it gets very hard to interact with staff. As my mom's POA they send me surveys all the time. I comment all the time that after 6p there is not enough help. Last survey I wrote in RED, at 6p you cut the staffing by 2/3. Just as these people(is is memory care unit) get ready to sundown the staff goes down to bare bones. How does that make sense????? I suspect is due to fact that people who make the decisions to staff light at that time work steady daylight. How can they possibly know what goes on? They honestly think there is nothing to do in the evening.

Man oh man I have worked 3-11 before.. Its the busiest of all the shifts. Ive worked them all so I am well aware! Two large med passes, admissions, ect. We used to joke that the day nurses simply planned what to do for lunch once the morning pass was done. And the night nurses just "held the fort down." 3-11 is where all the magic happens hehe.

Dont worry! Youll get the hang of it. In a month or so youll be flying through your shift because you will have the hang of it. A busy shift is a good shift because it helps the time go by :) Just keep a positive attitude and youll be fine!
