Side business ideas for nurses

I have an idea for a side business that I'm considering. I'm shifting to a two day a week job, keeping Per Diem at my old facility, and am also considering starting a side business, using my RN as a credential that would give me credibility.

I'm thinking of buying an 8 passenger van with a wheelchair lift and conducting day trips in the area, concentrating, but not limited to, marketing to the retired demographic. I'm thinking wine tours, microbreweries, antiquing, small mountain tourist areas.

What do you think? It would probably be a one woman operation.

I'd love to hear the allnurses membership share their side business ideas as well!

Sounds like a good idea. Make sure you know your target demographic - their interests, spending $$$, and mobility. Also make sure you are insured well. You'll want to make sure that you know what your role would be in case of a medical emergency. Being a healthcare worker can complicate things.

For some reason half the nurses I know - across two states and three hospitals - talk about opening a bakery. I'm not sure why that's common.

I like the idea of a side business where your experience would be useful, but being the sole healthcare provider seems like one of those things that could bite you in the ass. "Why didn't you have X on your bus, you're a nurse, you know a person experiencing X would need it." I'm a natural worrier, though, so I may be overthinking it. And, of course, IANAL. Thank god.

I'd start an outdoor adventure business. Lead hikes, climbs, rafting trips targeted at people with basic skills who are traveling from out of town and want to explore the locale. I'm from the most beautiful part of WA, where people come just to visit our mountain, so I figure I could do it... whether there's money in it, I don't know. It's my post-lottery plan. :)

I don't know how true it is, but I understand most escorts are hired by older men, so maybe if your client were taking a nitrate and wanted to take sildenafil to help enjoy his time with you...

What exactly is a hair wrap?

The coffee stand on the ground floor of my building was closed by the health department (NBD, I only got coffee there everyday for two years), and now all anyone talks about is when is the coffee stand opening again? So, a recent plan was to get a coffee cart on wheels, like the hot dog carts in NY, and just roll it up outside and watch the money pile up. Nursing students/faculty drink a lot of coffee.

When I am a nurse, I would like to sell/donate the scarves and many other things I crochet and knit. It's relaxing for me, and I do make some wonderful pieces, if I do say do myself. Anyone need a scarf?
