Shouldn't Have Gone Down that Rabbit Hole ...

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So I saw a post in one of my nursing Facebook groups promoting a "fast" and "cheap" RN program. Also stated that the Pell Grant would cover the cost. Yeah, you guys know what ya girl did! lol. I jumped on that thread fast and threw some facts in on 'em. I quickly searched the program to see if it was accredited, it wasn't. So I tried to tell people that and the fact that not everyone will qualify for a Pell Grant. Then I was quickly blocked from that post, so then I started my own! LOL!

If all of these people, or a majority of these people, are nurses I never want to go to a hospital or clinic ever again! These people were arguing with me that this school WAS accredited. No girl, just no. I showed them a picture from the ACEN website that showed only TWO schools. These people were SO dumb that they said, "That's not the name of the school". Yeah, I know! That's.The.Point! Those are the only TWO ACEN accredited schools.

Theeeeen people STILL tried arguing with me and posted photos from the state's BON website. No people, just NO! That's BON approval, NOT accreditation!

I don't understand how soo many nurses can be THAT stupid.

This thread reminds me of why I never had a facebook account and when people ask me why not (like it's an act of Congress that I don't), I simply tell them because FB has more drama than Lifetime!

LOL! My husband doesn't have Facebook & that's why he doesn't. I don't have much drama on Facebook, but it was nursing related so I posted on here. I don't even consider this drama. It was funny & didn't bother me at all.

I'm not saying Pell Grants aren't great or don't cover everything, just that not everyone who applies will get them. I wish I had a screen shot of the ad/scam. The way it was worded made it sound like everyone who applies to the school automatically gets a Pell Grant for the nursing program.

I agree with you. I'm a huge advocate to keep people going from scam schools. And it kills me how many people believe their crap.

I have an ex friend who has been to several of those schools. She owes tons of money in student loans and she has several of these schools under her belt with no degree. 3 for nursing school and is currently attending another for medical assisting.

She also owes me several thousand dollars. Which is why she is no longer my friend.

What makes you think that they're nurses?

I take it you are outside the US? Oh yeah, unaccredited nursing programs run rampant.

It would be great if all nursing programs were like that but then how would The for-profit programs survive? Lol.

Yea, I'm a kiwi.

I dont think our system would work in the US because of the state and federal level legislature, however Australia has a similar political system and if a nurse graduates in Brisbane Queensland, they can work anywhere in Australia.

As for the for profit programs, I'm a social democrat and dont think for profit has any place in health and education

Oh, I don't believe that because I don't like it. Uuuggghhh!!! >.

That's pretty much how it already is!

My ex bf daughter went to "nursing school" at one of these accredited by Jim-Bob schools, as she is (as nicely as I can say it), dumb as a box of rocks, but "I'm compassionate and wanna hellllpppp people"... Daddy helped her with private loans for around 80,000. I tried to tell them to run, but, no what would I know about accredited programs, I was just trying to ruin her dreams, mean person that I am. Well, flash forward, she barely passed that school, and because school was not accredited, she couldn't sit for boards, and daddy owes big for private loans. Wow, what a trainwreck. Glad he's my ex...

Yet another way the US has failed. When did all these for-profit schools start to pop up anyway? I can see how people get sucked in to the scam, after all one would usually assume going to nursing school means when you graduate you would actually be able to be a nurse. Too bad in this country that's not necessarily the case.

Yours sounds more like a mill, but there actually are some reputable non-accredited ADN nursing programs. Community colleges sometimes don't have the requisite number of advanced degree professors or the funds to seek accreditation. They still can have an arrangement with BSN programs so that the students' credits are transferable.

Just have to do your due diligence.

I don't have much drama on Facebook, but it was nursing related so I posted on here. I don't even consider this drama.

I do! I love it lol. I sit back and read with suspense, eating my pop-corn until mom and dad, I mean, the moderators come and break it up. I especially love the MA posts.

That's because I HATE drama in real life. I stay far away from it. It can get pretty fun here, though. I especially find it funny when I am COMPLETELY disagreeing with a poster in one thread, while vehemently backing them on another thread.

I know what you mean, Orion.

I am too. I want to prevent people from getting ripped off but as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water. If people want to get ripped off, then they should send their money my way! lol!
