I moved to Chicago for a guy. Big mistake. I have been very depressed living here because I absolutely loathe my job. I haven't liked it since my first day. I opted to stick it out until the end of my lease because moving here and then immediately going through a breakup was hard enough on me and I didn't feel like starting a new job. Luckily, me lease is up at the end of May, but I am planning on quitting my job by the 2nd week in May. Please preay that this time will go fast for me! I have been so depressed living here - no family, no friends, nobody to talk to. It is an amazing city if you have people with you, not so much when you are alone!

I just finished moving from Maine back to Nova Scotia, and my heart goes out to you. the only reason I made it through was that I knew I was leaving on a specific date, ready or not. I kept plugging along until then. Literally, one step at a time, and the steps always add up. Don't be afraid to hire someone to help you, that's what credit cards are for. Go back home having learned and grown from a rotten experience that is, thankfully, over.

Winter in Chicago is not a happy time--when the sun is out more and the wind and snow aren't blowing your eyebrows off and freezing them at the same time, it will be somewhat better! My thoughts are with you!

A similar thing happened to me. I moved to FL soley for a relationship that lasted only six months, and then here I was in a strange place without any friends or family. I made the best of it, made new friends and 16 years later, I'm still here. Fortunately, I found a job I at least didn't hate.

Good luck! Try to take your mind off of it by making the most of the city while you're there. The Field Museum is really cool, and last time I was in Chicago, there was a pizzeria near Wrigley called Bacci's that sells pizza slices bigger than your face for like $3. You'll get a good laugh. Hang in there! May will be here before you know it!

You should definitely explore the city while you're there! The museums are great. I loved walking around the city and then going to a museum for the afternoon to escape the cold. I second that pizza place too!
