Please don't attack me for misunderstanding the nursing profession - I don't mean to condemn anybody on here for what they do, in fact everyone deserves a significant amount of praise for the important work they do in every aspect of their job.
If there are religious reasons why a person would not want to be exposed to genetalia of the opposite sex, is there a way to make it through the nursing training and practice while respecting this? (i.e. keeping the anatomy education to simply text-books and lectures rather than direct exposure and contact).
My wife loves the idea of taking on such a helpful and meaningful career, but doesn't want to put herself in a situation that compromises some of those religious priorities. She thought pediatrics, for example, could be a solution - but didn't know if she would have to go through rotations involving it to get there. Please let me know your thoughts without challenging the religious priorities I'm mentioning.
Thank you in advance!

I have MANY challenges to your religious priorities as will any nursing school or Board of Nursing in the United States.
To simply answer your question: Assuming your wife means to go to school and practice in this country: No, no way, none whatsoever.
I grew up an Penticostal, Assemblies of God skirt girl... So as far as objections to looking at the personal atanatomy of the opposite sex... I have been there. Religiously, I don't think that my church objects if the opposite sex anatomy is handled in a clinical way. We are practical after all. If it is really NOT a religious issue with you, it might be a personel issue for your wife. Cant blame you or her there. I was a virgin before my husband (of 10 years today!) so the idea of handling someone elses dingaling to shove in a painfully invasive object(for a good reason) was a bit too much. In nursing school, I was assigned to catheterize a fake member and I was so nervous I shook so bad I broke the sterile gloves and field. The only idiot out of 10 nursing students to fail the checkoff. You get used to it. It is ok, and necessary. I had a patient yesterday whose blood pressure was over 200 systolic and 100 diastolic and bladder scan 905ml post surgery. Couldnt urinate . If I hadnt shoved a catheter up that (with his wife watching... She didnt faint kudos ) he could have had severe cardiac repercussions that could have taken his life. We get over the ooginess and religious correctness t o save lives. If your wife is not there mentally, give her time. If you have a problem with what she will be doing, talk with her and maybe consider another profession for her.
As a straight male I have touched more memberes than I want to (which ideally is 0) and have seen more not-so-picturesque lady partss than I could ever imagine. I don't enjoy it but,....
...its what the job entails.
Nursing is not for her or you or whatever. I commend the desire to be in nursing though.
Correction: 1 member lol
