Nurses smoking weed?

Hey nurses,

In honor of "420" tomorrow... As a health-care professional, what are your thoughts on smoking weed? Any nurses out there that smoke a joint here and there?

Cheers.

Are we being punked?

First of all, if I did, I surely wouldn't be posting about it here.

Secondly, I don't drink or smoke. After caring for patients that do both, I don't think I ever can.

I love my liver and lungs too much.

Nope, not being punked. Just a curious person wondering if nurses like to wind down in different "sorts".

But I do think that nurses out there who do smoke weed wouldn't admit it here. Probably would get a lot of backlash from that.

I have a long history of back and neck pain. I've heard that weed is great for chronic pain. But I would never do it as long as it's a violation of federal law. I worked too hard for my license. As long as I'm subject to drug screens, it's not gonna happen. It's also illegal in my state.

I feel smoking weed is the most innocuous intoxicants to indulge in; however as nurses we are paid a premium for our good judgement. By smoking marijuana and jeopardizing our careers that good judgement becomes questioned. Marijuana is still classified as a schedule 1 drug and as such cannot be prescribed, and can get us fired or our licenses suspended.

Hell, I went to college in the 1970's that's all I gotta say on that subject. Now a nice glass of wine to relax me and the warm feeling of a touch of stress incontinence I'm doing okay.

I didn't use MJ at all when I was a working nurse, even though it is legal in my state. It wasn't worth the risk. Now that I'm "retired", however, I occasionally smoke a bowl with my husband, who uses it to help with the nausea and pain associated with his cancer. I have never had any moral objections to MJ and would rather see people use it than drink alcohol. I am careful to consult experts as to what strains are beneficial for someone with my mental health issues and leave the rest alone. But on average, I use MJ less than once a month so it's basically a non-issue.

I lived in a state where it is legal for 20 years. Many, many years ago, I did occasionally smoke weed. I also went to nursing school in that state. (It is not legal in the state where I now live.) That having been said, I did not even consider smoking weed for a very long time before nursing school. I am on too many maintenance prescriptions to even consider drinking very often and I would NEVER consider working while intoxicated. I am currently licensed in two states. One of those is a compact license. I have traveled and worked in four states. As others have said, I worked far to hard to earn my RN. I truly value my career and having unencumbered licenses. There is no way that I would do ANYTHING to jeopardize either of my licenses. I don't understand why any medical professional would even consider it. Every one of us has far too much money, time, energy, heartache, etc. invested to even consider risking our jobs and careers for something so trivial.

Nah. Smoked a couple of times in college and didn't enjoy it. It surely wasn't wonderful enough for me to stress about drug screens and an encumbered license.

Besides, as a PP said, it stinks. Stale reefer smoke makes me gag.

Absolutely not!

I do not have a problem with it and were it legal I would likely partake on my off time. However, it is NOT legal and I love being a nurse. There is no choice to be made here. I do not and will not.

Except other nurses.

Only the tender ones. One has to be really motivated to take on the chewy crusters.

The Chewy Crusters are right up my alley. They are well seasoned and done to perfection.

More for me.
