My daughter is sick.... - page 2
I need some help here. My daughter, who is 22, came to visit me this past weekend. She woke up Sunday morning with excruciating pain in her right side, toward her back. We went to the ER, the doc... Read More

I'd also want a CT or MRI of that area and an ultrasound of the kidney. Good question above, what are the cultures showing if anything? Might be masked by the antibiotics she is on. Wonder why the doc jumped so fast at infection??
God bless you and your daughter. I hope she recovers fully and quickly.

Agree with all of the above recomendations. Having a husband passing his 90th kidney stone this week, have a little experience in this area. Wouldn't be suprised if a stone is causing obstruction, holding Urine in ureter and Kidney pelvis if pain is not releived + WBC's not coming down. Was Kidney enlarged on one side only on CAT???. Some infection's take 48hrs of antibiotics before response. Two antibiotics for kidney infection--get urology consult stat. Renal colic comes on suddenly with pain radiating to midback ontop of pelvis area. If still severe pain, have seen IV Toradol knock renal colic quickly down to manageable levels. Hope their hydrating her well along with pushing PO fluids if not nauseated---what about UA output?? Next dibs would be to check apendix or rule out pelvic inflamatory disease.
Hope things turn around quickly.

They did do an ultrasound on Sunday. I couldn't tell if her kidney was enlarged or not. (I'm still new at this game). Wouldn' that in itself tell if she had stones or not? Tuesday then was the CT. I haven't even got to talk to the doc myself...he is always in there early....about 6am.
I was also wondering about her appendix. When I brought it up, of course I was brushed off, so I figured it wasn't that.
And there has been no camping or out of country visits...
I read stress can make your WBC be high...She has been under an extrordinary amount of stress lately...maybe?
Thank you all~

I work nights so I know those docs that show up early to avoid talking to the patients or their families. So, I tell the family to either come in or that I will call them when he/she shows up and then I say "hey doc! Mrs. Smith is on the phone and wants to talk to you about her son." As I shove the phone at them. When they grumble I say "hey, they are paying for that Porsche you drive in here everyday..." They always shut up then.

She has been taken off her IV this morning, but still has the INT for her antibiotics.
No fever lately as far as I know, and she is still sore, but feeling much better.
No word yet as to when she gets to come home, but hopefully it will be soon...
Thank you all for your prayers and kind words...this is such a wonderful group!:kiss to all of you!
