My apologies

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Recently, I made a mistake that was offensive to other nurses; I would like to apologize if I have offended you.

After speaking with many people about this, I do want it to be known that I have a lot of respect for nurses of every background. Some of the most helpful nurses to me have been ADNs; my best friend is an ADN. I meant absolutely no disrespect and sincerely hope that if you read anything to the contrary, you can accept my apology.

On an additional note, I think it is important for many of us to learn how to give constructive criticism without being rude or calling names.

Thank you and again, I apologize for any offense that was made and hope we can move forward with mutual respect for one another.

Okay, so I had to investigate to figure out to what you are referring, and I found your now closed thread. I'd like to point out that your inflammatory post about ADNs was sure to cause offense. However, I hope you also understand that telling someone to eff off is even worse, imo.

Your posts to CelticGoddess were the absolute rudest of all, far worse than your remark about ADNs or any response you received to your original post. I hope you get that, and that in the future you stay within the TOS, or you will find yourself banned, and that would be a shame, because this site can offer you so much.

It takes a big person to apologize, but it wasn't clear to me that you understood how egregious your responses to other members were above and apart from your original post. If you truly get that, then sure, it's possible to move forward. The members here are for the most part pretty good people. They have a wealth of knowledge and willingness to help when approached the right way.

I also didn't know what you were referring to so I had to look back ...

Ouch.

If you haven't already, and if you are truly issuing sincere apologies, I would PM Celtic Goddess and Smiling BlueEyes and apologize to them and not to the AN forum. I think it would mean something then.

But this is a start. Recognizing ones own terrible behavior is a good first step.

Yeah... I too just looked at your other threads, and in my opinion the ADN comments were the least of your offenses. I can see how someone with no nursing background could be ignorant of ADN education. So that comment could really stem from you not knowing what you don't know.

What you said to the VERY WISE, VERY EXPERIENCED professionals mentioned above was... highly unprofessional and highly immature.

That warrants so much more soul-searching and contrition than the ADN comments did.

Thank you. But it's hard to get over being told to "fly a kite" or ____ off.

Glad to see some humility here and if you are sincere, I can move on.

For now, I am just going to wait and see. I don't need you to tell me not to insult or be rude to others here. I have been a member of this forum for over 15 years and I have seen plenty in that time. My advice for any new poster is to understand the culture of any forum including this one, before jumping in and making broad/inflammatory assumptions. Your first ever post was rather telling and I am unsure whether to believe what I have begun to assume about who you are. But that said....

I do appreciate this post and the intention, honestly; I do.

Wishing you well.

Yes I thought so too. Celtic Goddess is a very valued, respected member here.

I did not particularly enjoy being told to "fly a kite" or "**** off" myself.

I saw another urban dictionary-defined word the other day. It was "fauxpology".

SmilingBlueEyes, I was thinking she said that to CelticGoddess. But in any case, she owes you both an apology. I'm actually surprised that post wasn't removed and a stern warning given.

You really might consider looking long and hard at how you present yourself.

You seem disingenuous in your writings even now.

Your wording of "have many ADN friends" sounds like "have many (insert ethnic/religious group) friends"...

The comments in the other thread are egregious, offensive, inappropriate, and so many other words that don't even come close to describing how ****** up what you said to those people were.

YOU came to a public forum. Nobody forced you to come here. You did that willingly.

I'm assuming that you came here to ask questions of those who are experts/have the answers you seek.

It's clear by your post, and even your intended path (direct entry masters and going into nursing leadership with no experience), that you feel that certain avenues of healthcare, or even certain members of the healthcare team are beneath you.

This attitude is dangerous, and will ultimately lead to failure if not corrected immediately.

A non-apology apology in public for all to see is fairly transparent. We, as a group, have no need to know how "sorry" you claim to be. The thread was locked, and I imagine the mods would have no problem deleting it. With the name change, nobody cares enough to follow who you are. If you were truly sorry, there would be no need for this post, and you would apologize directly to those you offended in a private forum, but since you can't even mention them by name in your OP, I doubt that you have the self awareness to do that...
