The economy stinks and new grads and other nurses are searching for employment.

What nursing job would YOU never do and why.....

I'm not a fan of ICU..why? to me it is too stressful, too dramatic too heart-breaking.

Specializes in LTC.

hospice-can't handle it, tried it as an aide.

Peds- hate to see suffering children.

Psych- scares me ! Ironically I work in alzheimers and they have alot of psych issues .

I would NEVER work in OB. I'm against circumcision, formula and inducing for no medical reason. Stealing this answer from someone else....I wouldn't deal with abortions either.

Specializes in Med/Surg and Critical Care Stepdown.

I started in Med/Surg and swore I'd never do critical care. I took a position on a CCU stepdown because I liked the manager and have never been happier!! What you think you would never do may surprise you - keep the doors open!

Specializes in Emergency & Trauma/Adult ICU.

Child/adolescent psych.

A very brief clinical rotation in this area almost made me consider quitting nursing school.

Specializes in ER.

OB and Peds- Can't deal with all the families and the drama. Give me an acute MI but just don't give me the snotty runny nose 2 year old!

I would almost do any kind of nursing job when I graduate this May, but I don't think I could work in an abortion clinic. I'm not entirely against abortion under certain circumstances, but I don't think could work in such a clinic no matter how good the money is.

Anything to do with babies and kids....can't deal with the whining, cying etc. Probably why I don't have any of my own ;)

My twin girls spending so much time in NICU is what got me into NS but I'm not sure I could handle anything with Peds - NICU, Peds, Ped Oncology, etc...

OB! I am also against induction and formula for no good reason, circumcision (at least when they are only a day old!), and the routine use of pain meds...the nurses and docs I have seen in OB act like no woman can get through labor without an epidural. Women have been doing it since the dawn of humanity! And the OB docs (at least where I live and work) ignore lots of evidence so they can do what is most convenient for them (cut the cord before first breath, lithotomy position, won't do water births).

I am a pediatric person all the way. Never wanna work with adults, love my children despite some of the heartbreak that goes along with it. Can't picture myself working anywhere else...
