I quit 13 years ago, because my husband got mad and quit his job. Me i was still working full time and he was going through some job withdrawal BS . I only smoked 1/2 pack a day at the time to his 1 1/2 pack. He sat pouting around the house with a mean take his troubles out on me attitude you know that irritable man syndrome. At the point that he was realllly begining to get on my nerves:O I decided he was not going to borrow another cigarette from me ever and quit smoking. Never bought another pack, it was real hard, but every time I thought about starting again I remembered how angry he made me and it worked. He was sooooooooo mad :) Who would have quessed. I seldom can remember what has made me angry for an hour . I hope you do well it was hard, my butt got bigger, my patience got smaller both for a while but it was worth it. A good choice. deb I started smoking when they were less than 50 cents a pack ,oh my that makes me ancient

Join the club Diane. I am on my 2nd week and I'm doing pretty good using the 7mg patches. I smell better (I hope!) and yes, food tastes good, but I have started working out and it has kept me from gaining so far.Actually have lost 3 pounds :)
Keep up the awesome work Diane, and all you nurse quiststers!

My as* got wider, but my chest got unlocked, so I was able to breathe deep enough to work it off.

I quit for good about a year ago. Luckily I didn't gain any weight. Only thing is when I go out to bars, I'm still smoking the equivalent of a cig or two...Now if I even have a drag, I wake up coughing and phlegmy.
Keep up the good work all you recent quitters!!!

Two years, nine months, two weeks, one day, 15 hours, 54 minutes and 37 seconds. 20393 cigarettes not smoked, saving $4,333.39. Life saved: 10 weeks, 19 hours, 25 minutes.
This is the quit meter I keep on my puter all the time. The amount saved doesn't even consider that smokes are now around $5.00/pack. Congrats to all the quitters here.

Hoooooooooray for you !!!!!!
Now it's my turn. Kinda scary, but I've insisted that once I graduate, I REFUSE to be a nurse who smokes.. can't think of anything more contradictory. So... I've graduated and all that's left is the NCLEX..."don-tarrrran-don...":o oh noooooooo !!! And my DON at work has already reminded me of my "personal goal" I had told her about 3 years ago..(quitting after I get my RN)... darn, she has a good memory !
So keep it up, Girl, and when it's my turn, you better be rootin' for me, too !!! It's either cold turkey, or the patches.. can't decide. Can't handle the gum... makes me wanna puke!

Congratulations, Nurse Dianne!!
I KNOW how hard it is.........I gave up when I was pregnant/feeding my 2 young girls, but slipped back into it.........when I went back to school, and my excuses are running out........I have to go through that pain (again) of giving up.
