  1. Hey there are two of this thread what is going on? deb
  2. I am so sorry to hear that you didn't get accepted. It sounds like you had gotten your hopes up and feel shot down. There are more people searching for jobs now that so many jobs have went overseas, nursing is a job that many people find seems a safe place, you always need nurses. There just are not enough spots for everyone in the nursing classes and ironically the teachers in a lot of colleges are getting their hours or positions cut. You just ARE what they want, they just have so many young smart women to chose from right now that you will have to be patient. don't loose faith. Good Luck and God Bless. Deb:kiss
  3. I know you are not talking about LTC setting but FYI the ratio is more like 28-1 nurses (RN or LPN), with the CNA ratio being 10-13 to 1. deb
  4. I quit my last job because of the mandatory overtime that went out of control. Once in a while was not so bad but when it became the answer to a missing 2nd shift nurse I was gone. It takes you away from your family , causes agitation between staff members, causes stress on your mind and body, and is a unsafe work situation. Deb
  5. So sorry to hear you are having trouble. Prayers sent your way. Make sure you have a cardiaologist you trust, one with a good track record and one you can feel comfortable talking to.God bless. Deb
  6. So sorry this happened to you, I never have taken papers home intentionaly but have found the remains in the wash at times. sounds like they treated you very ugly. How unprofessional Deb
  7. Smiling Blue eyes, I agree with this opinion. If the schools took the time to see how many potential students there are just wishing for a night class in their Field(not just nursing) you would think they would try to accommodate them. I wonder if they have looked into it? Would it be cost effective? You know worth the cost of hiring teachers for nights plus the cost of keeping the facility open. It sounds like a money maker to me but I am not a financial wizard. deb
  8. Okay I understand the rationale for patient rights, and I know it is the right thing to do and all,but there are times when charting to cover your a** just don't seem to be enough. The times when you just want to be your daddy and say" do it because I said so" (of course my dad added or I will smack your a**)as irrational as that is. Me, I work with a lot of stobborn geriatric persons whose families seem to think that we can make them act right. The ones who don't want their medicine today, I have one woman who will tell me God has told her she don't need it. Then there are the ones who are unsteady on their feet but still want to do what they want without asking for help getting there. Well we have those restraint free alarms so we will know when they try to get up out of their wheel chair after they remove their own seatbelt. They will take off the alarms and hide them which is to me a refusal, but it also is a Drs. order to have ti on. It makes no sense to me if they can remove the alarm they know what they want, can we make them wear them? One lady came strolling up the hall alarm in her hand I guess it was attached to her in a way. Then there is the guy who is on fluid restriction who goes down to the snack machine and gets his own drinkks or to the water fountain. The one who wants his PRN drugs when he wants them along with all his other drugs and if you tell him not a smart idea he calls 911 to tell them you are causing him to be in pain, or the guy who goes out for a cigarrette then comes in and wants his O2 hooked up. Its Cwazy, I really have respect for those of you in the ER your stories are enlightening as where my trouble started As tiny Tim said"May God Bless us, everyone" deb
  9. Thanks I am copying these for my daughter in the 2nd semester of nursing school. I am sure she will love ya'll for them. deb

It all depends on the facility, some pay overtime after 8 hrs, most by the week anything over 40 hrs, never heard of over 80 hrs. The weasels what will they try next? deb
  11. wow carebear, what an experience I worked in a old TB sanitarium in Ohio this one had tunnels to different buildings also like mama Val's. It was at least 80 yrs old when I worked there, they shut it down 10 years ago. There were many people who saw "things" or felt "cold spots" I thought it funny until one day I saw someone in a white uniform go out onto the balcony by the nurses station when I was working 11-7 I went to see who it was and there was no one there. Gave me the chills. deb
  12. I am an LPN working on my RN too ! One class at a time. thanks for the welcome been lurking here for a while. Deby:D
  13. Hi, I was 30 when I got my LPN too. I had twins in first grade and a kindergardener. My husband drove truck over- the -road from Bosten to LA, never home. My family was supportive but could not help much. If I could do it you can too, I am no organazational wizard just very stuborn. Good Luck
