I feel VALUED at my job!

Nurses General Nursing

To refresh memories and bring newbies up to speed:

I was asked to leave my management job in January, I didn't fit the new directors idea of what a Clinical Coord. should be (an advocate for both nurses and clients). I enjoyed my unemployment, I was able to spend a lot of time with my Mom before she died on 2/28 and almost as much time enjoying my new grandbaby Dylan.

I openly admit I barely looked for a job, I intentionally *just* met my States job search requirements to collect unemployment (the State decided in my favor that the firing was wrongfull). After the stress of my last job I was NOT going to apply for or accept a position just for the sake of having a job, I ONLY applied for jobs I wanted.

I applied for a Peds clinic position in Febuary, they called me the end of March and I started on 4/14. This job is perfect for me...I am disabled and it meets all of my limitations, pays more than the last job, is Peds (which I love) and is M-F, days (except for 4 hours on Saturday Q 3 months).

During my lunch break on day 1 of week 3 of orientation (4/28) I received word that my MIL in rural OK was dying (advanced ovarian ca). I spoke to my boss and left work. My husband & I were on a flight that night.

I was supposed to be back to work on May 6. I left voice mail on the 5th that I was detained until May 9 and would be at work on the 10th.

And I was there, more importantly, I was still on the schedule.

I am totally blown away that they held my job for me.

I was surprised that they I still had a job after the 1st week and even more so the 2nd. Clinic jobs are few & far between in my area, those that get hired stay *forever*. I fully believed when I left that I would not have a job to come back to but couldn't send my husband home to face it alone, not after the incredible support he gave me during my Moms illness & death.

Monday morning during report EVERY SINGLE PERSON welcomed me back, including my Supervisor, the Director and the Docs. This is not a cozy little Peds practice, it is one department in a HUGE multi-location, general/internal med, multi-specialty clinic (something like 400 providers and 30,000 patients).

I have NEVER in 12+ years of nursing felt so valued as an employee. I have never had an employer make it so apparent that they wanted ME to work for them. This is just such an incredibly COOL feeling!

BTW, yes, the MIL is still alive, if you want to call it that. Worse yet, she is A&O x4.
