Gossiping in the hospital

Ever been curious why gossip is rampant in the hospital? Its like everyone knows everything. Up to date gossips. As we all know, the hospital is one of the busiest places and one couldnt even take time to pee but we have all the time to gossip. Im guilty of this too.. Hmm. If you watch Greys Anatomy, I think this show portrays a typical hospital setting (including the gossip and love issues) Is it true in your hospital too?

I have found this to be true everywhere that I have worked.

My favorite strategy was to keep my mouth shut and play dumb... but then people would tell me stuff because "Hygiene doesn't talk about anybody"... lol.

So I knew some strange things about people :o

But it is true that if you tell me to keep it to myself, I do.

I suppose I am guilty of viewing it as entertainment sometimes. Very rarely (and years ago) have I ever ever seen sheer nastiness and hatefulness. That's not funny and, thankfully, most folks I work with have a good heart and conscience. They are just human and fell into the gossip trap... as most do... myself included.

I may not actively initiate it or blab about anything, but I do enjoy a good story.

Guilty as charged.

My question: is it just me or is it not the unit secretary that always has the latest scoop?

gossip is ubiquetos at my hospital. I had to tell a girl to shut her mouth once, I know very mean of me. I just didn't feel like hearing it at 5'oclock in the morning.

There is gossip and my hospital but very little of it is malicious or wildly exaggerated.usually just friendly chit chat about what is going on with others.

I don't think I would ever compare my work place to Grey's Anatomy. There will be "gossip" everywhere you go, but it is rarely malicious. I think people on my floor have realized that it doesn't get you anywhere...

I tend to think its more of a 'being human' thing rather than a 'working in a hospital' thing.

I've worked in big and small LTC centers and gossip is everywhere. I would find out things about myself before I even knew:lol2:

It gets even worse...the pharmacy delivery guys get in on it and spread stuff from building to building.

I am always the last one to hear things and I like it that way.

When people gossip, I have a tendency to walk away.

Gossip is everywhere, no matter where you work. People let it get to them and things get worse. I've been at my hospital for almost 6 yrs and I have never had any problems (unlike some people are at each other necks after a short week) And if I had to work at a place like Grey's Anatomy, I would quit on the spot...lol

Who has time to gossip?

I suppose some of my coworkers might do this while on break, but I eat my lunch in the car where no one can find me. :D

There is gossip everywhere, in every profession and in every workplace. Hospitals are bigger usually, with lots of staff, so lots more gossip!

It was harmless at the hospital i worked in, the usually who's sleeping with who kind of thing. It's everywhere.

Gossiping is horrible, I just pretend like I have never heard of it as well. What is really horrible is when your boss gossips, that is sickening to me, and guess what ? I work for a boss like that. What in the heck is saying behind my back??????
