Drastic change in appearance

Nurses General Nursing

So I have made a major change in my appearance. I'm a new nurse who got licensed in August 28.Going from layered, shoulder lenght I cut my hair quite short, the back of my hair is totally short and layered,I left the left front side of my hair at a chin lenght my right front side I left at the lenght at whcih I can pull it behind my ear.Sort of like a short bob

I'm quiet happy with my drastic change,I quess my hair deserved conditioning.Hopefully my assymetric hair wont scare of the unit managers when I get a job. I figured that since I'm entering a new profession I might as well enter it with a new haircut...So did you ever made a drastic change in your appearance as a nurse?

I change hair styles and/or color whenever I get bored. Only once has it caused an issue. While working in inpatient psych I dyed my hair henna red. One of my female patients took one look, announced that she "hated" my hair color as it was the same as her mother's (she had serious "mother" issues). Every day for the next two weeks she tried to attack me physically - coming through strong men to do so! Needless to say, that hair color was quickly history!

Specializes in Hospice.

Changing your look is no big tell. maintaining it is nother issue. Since this is your first job. Hope your looks create a good impression.

Honey, if the only thing off-center about you is your hair length don't worry. Now, stop short of massive tattoos and body modifications until AFTER you get hired.

;)

Specializes in ICU/Critical Care.

I have a short angular bob, you know, stacked layers in the back that are short and long in the front. I got highlights put in also, some blonde some dark red. No one said anything to me.

Have you been sneakin' to my beautician and stealin' my style? I've had my hair that way for a couple of years, and I think it's gorgeous if I must say so myself!

I've been going to a different stylist the last two months. She was the only one that could give me the cut exactly how I wanted it and ironically she had the same thing too. Everyone loved my hair and she's highlighted it a couple of times already and it looks so nice. I love the cut and had been trying to get my last stylist to get it right, she never could so I went to a different salon and am totally happy that I did. That being said, its been 2.5 weeks since I've been back to see my new girl, my hair is already growing out.

blackhearted, it sounds really cute! stylish and easy to deal with, and out of your way for work. i bet you look very professional. glad you treated yourself to a new 'do to go w/your new license. did you get it colored too?

(but didja remember to ask your stylist to add the little spiky kate gosselin thingie in the back/top?) ;)

Nothing makes me feel better when lots of changes are occurring (new job, new home, etc.) or if not enough changes are occurring than to change my hair around. Been blonde, red, went back to my natural light brown color for a while and couple months ago when jet black. I love it. I'm trying to grow it out, I've never had long hair before but have always wanted it long. Very tedious and slow at this point.

Good for you with the new do to go with the new job, go rock the place!

Wow what an awsome story!! But I definitely believe things like that unfortunately are not uncommon to psych specialties.I remeber similar event happend to one of my good friends from nursing school.During our psych rotation one of the patient thought she was a ST.Mary; mother of Jesus just because because my friend had blue eyes and light blond hair. My friend was assigned to her and all day she was telling everyone the mother of Jesus came to her to save her and was kissing her hands.Needless to say my friend was definitely not thrilled to go back to this psych facility.
