I have a confession to make. Let me start by saying that I am a very giving person. I find happiness in other peoples happiness and find joy in giving. That is just the way I am.

At work, I have secretly become a reason for big smiles. How? Well, I only work when they need me, my paycheck is hardly enough to live on and my husband is more than able to pay the bills on his own. He told me to spend my paycheck as I see fit. Sooo, each payday, I purchase a small item be it a bookmark, a candle, a box of chocolates...etc. I leave anon gifts at work for the nurses and aides along with a note telling them that they do a great job. Nobody knows who the gifts come from and I am not about to tell! The gifts appear whether I am there or not (I have an accomplice). I don't want thanks, I don't want anything from them, I just want to see a smile on the face of someone I appreciate.

Thank you for letting me share this with you all. Sometimes it's hard to keep such an important secret and I don't want it to get out in the work place.

I am impressed, misslo. I am positive that you are making a HUGE difference in the attitudes of many there and bring sunshine into the lives of so many of your colleagues.

Thank you. You know, it doesn't take much to show someone you appreciate them. I like doing it with little gifts, but you don't always have to spend money. I like them not knowing "who" exactly, but just that there is someone who does appreciate them. Working in hospice can at times feel overwhelming personally, no matter how rewarding it feels. Each specialty, I'm sure, has times when you feel overwhelmed. All it takes is a little love and it doesn't necessarily matter from who.

That is true; sometimes, a card can be given, some treats left anonymously, such as fruits, some water, donuts, or a letter to administration (again, this can be done secretly as well), documenting that this is a great group to work with. Keep up the good work, secret angel!
