does anybody have any idea when will this economy pickup? been jobless for 3 months now and it's driving me nuts.. thought that if i pass the nclex then everythng will fall into place.. but it's not.. it's out of wack.. and no matter what i do.. already sent tons of applications..called nursing recruiters, even went to hospitals and nsg facilities, care homes etc personally.. but still no luck.. it is really depressing.. and i thought that passing the nclex was hard enough :crying2: iam so heartbroken...

Regardless of what anybody might say - here, in the media, politicians, whoever - nobody knows.

There are signs that the economy's improving but there are persuasive arguments that say that it's artificial and that the next time down is going to be even worse.

It is very frustrating and you're not alone. More than half of my graduating class (Summer, 2009) has not found work, yet.

I have no idea! But after being unemployed for 4 months, I have ONE interview. It is over 50 minutes away, I just can't be picky at this time. By the way I am not a new nurse. It will just take time. Have someone look over your resume, see if you can do anything to make yours stand out.

I just graduated and most of my peers do not have jobs either. My advice is to not be picky and take what you can get. A foot in the door is all you need and then once the economy picks up and you get experience, you can move into something more suitable for you. Just apply anywhere for anything and hopefully some doors start opening up. Be proactive and positive. :)

We are on the same boat, Abby! Been searching and sending tons of applications to almost everywhere but never got a single call from some. I'm already resenting myself for moving here in the US with less than a year hospital experience. It's just so hard to get a job.

All we have to do is just not give up and keep on praying.

Hi Friend.

I was in your shoes two months ago. I know exactly how you feel. I know its hard, it sucks actually. But believe me, you will be put when you are needed and where you're supposed to me. All I can tell you is to keep trying, keep calling. Keep on the HR personell's butts...seriously. Don't be afraid to make yourself be heard. You have alot to offer and anyone who says "No"...well its their loss.

What I will tell you is to look into other areas of your state or other areas of the country if you're willing to re-locate...just to see what is available and just start applying for positions.

Look up all the LTC/SNF/Rehab facilities in your area by checking into the Medicare website. Its what my wife and I did, once we did that we quickly found jobs. Many smaller LTC/SNF/Rehab facilities do not have websites and do not advertise so they are not easy to find.

I've been working for a month now in a SNF, it's a nice working experience, you start to build confidence especially on your nursing judgment. I plan to move to another facility after a year or so. It's better to have this job than to not work at all. It gets hard especially at night when you handle 31 patients, do accuchecks every 6 hours for most of the patients, do med passes, charting, medicare, 24 hour report, do the Aid assignments, prepare dialysis patients. But once you have your routine it will be ok. :)

It's definitely a tough job market right now. We just hired a new grad RN who had done her preceptorship with us and after graduation, volunteered in our unit (through volunteer services). She helped out with various non-patient care projects (JCAHO visit prep, cleaned up inservice board, re-arranged our library, re-organized our supply room, etc.) When a position opened up, she had the job locked up, even though it had to be posted.

Obviously the job market is really tough right now so you just have to hold out and keep trying until something comes up. Just keep trying and don't give up.

Hi I am sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time; there are more people goinginto nursing due to the job situation all around the board; I do know some nurses who relocated to different states that are still hiring nurses; I am not sure of your situation and if that would be feasible for you, don;t lose faith something will turn up; best of luck to you
