Just wondering if anyone has any good stories of being pranked by their patients? Here's a pretty good one...

One of my patients told me that he saw on the news that someone had just jumped out of the window from the top floor of my hospital.

Ha ha?

I was thankfully not at work this day, but one of our patients called in a bomb threat to the main nursing station because they were bored. It was sort of a huge deal and the patient discharged with law enforcement officers. I wish I had a fun prank story though...

There's a story that George Burns (google him kids - legendary comedian who lived to be 100) told on himself.

The nurse brought in a urine specimen cup and told him to 'fill it'. She left, and he emptied the contents of his apple juice into it. She returned, saw the container and said "Hmmmm, it's a little dark!" George then said, "Let me run it though another time" and before she knew what was happening, he opened the specimen cup and drank the juice.

Ha ha?

I work with a very special patient population.

My boss and good friend was in with CP r/o MI. He faked slurred speech and hemiplegia because it was April 1st.

You can use your imagination

for the names we called him when he stopped faking it.

Yeah it felt good to call him a you know what.

Not funny when it's actually happened at the hospital in the past...

Also have several patients (male) tell me they're in for a "boob job" when they're scheduled for heart surgery. Also not funny because surgery and informed consent are pretty darn important.

I pulled a prank on one of my patients once to get him back for pranking me first. He reciprocated my one-upsmanship by greasing the doorhandles of my car. He won.

Well, I wasn't directly involved with this nurse to nurse prank, there was the incident at the Big Clinic where I worked in the Injection Location (colloquially, "shot room") The receptionist would send the orders for shots through a pneumatic tube system. Some anonymous mischief-maker sent KM, my unsuspecting co-worker an order for "Ivy Green" who proceeded to the waiting area . . .

"Ivy Green!" . . ."Ms. Ivy Green. . Ivy! . " Went on for a good long time, too. (KM was very conscientious)

Ivy remained silent because Ivy was a potted philodendron sitting in a chair . . .thinking back on it I hope it was April Fool's Day because --- otherwise who would do such a juvenile thing?!?

Not a patient prank but during my orientation my preceptor thought it would be hilarious to get me to shower a resident who screams every time she gets a shower. Of course this included everyone working on the unit that day stopping to ask what I was doing to her

I would be freaked out if a patient knew which car was mine; kind of stalkerish.
