So I have been watching Trauma on NBC and I thought, hey, they made Mercy they are attempting to show RN's in a good light. So because the show is mainly about paramedics and EMTs, they are hardly ever at a hospital they couldn't really show the nurse in a bad light......WRONG.
Watching the show right now and the paramedics come to the hospital and give report to the MD, with the MDs doing all the nursing work and the nurses are standing around the desk talking about which paramedic they slept with.

And what TV show portrays a profession realistically? Are all cops on the take, Do all firemen get lucky on top of a firetrucks, Do all astronomers save the world from an impending apocalypse? Feel fortunate that your profession is portrayed more than other jobs. Yeah let's watch the show "Mechanic 238" on the edge... :)
It is all just Hollywood, what ya gonna do?

I know you don' want to read this... but I refuse to watch any show that relates to what I do for a living. After you've done this for many years... you'll want your home time to be just that and I strongly suggest that to you. What we do day to day exhausts us.... I've already lived that crap this week, I don't need it anymore.... I need my personal space to be whole... and I've set those boundaries. Consider the message, you already live this... why watch work at home even if it is flawed.

op: thank you for posting... i saw the promos and was annoyed by the looks of the cast. not that they were ugly... the promos made them seem so cocky it made me want to puke! plus, i figured the show would turn out to be another bad deal for nurses... thanks for helping me to confirm my belief. i'll stick to mercy...!!
zookeeper3: i know how you feel and i agree for the most part. i do not watch nursing shows on days i plan to work or the days i am fully relaxed. i find them to be enjoyable on the day i just got off of work! i come home stressed i can handle catching up on episodes on that day or the day after.

I admit to enjoying the nursing shows on TV, knowing that they are unrealistic. I'm just tickled pink that nurses are actually shown doing nursing activities, at least some of the time. I'm pretty lenient about license taken for entertainment purposes, but it is annoying that in this day and age of improved awareness of nurses' roles on TV (well, sort of, anyway) that a new show like you're describing can be introduced.
I think they should do a show about me. I mean how I get a group to follow my bidding with a mere flash of my hand, how I get my wife to wimper at my beckon call or raise of an eyebrow, and the unforgettable way I get my cat to do the cha cha just by a simple hand gesture, yes I belong on TV, well really I belong in the funny farm but don't all people that pretend and make believe. What is that old saying? "All the World is a Stage" Glad I am not to far from Hollywood... Grin...:)

I do agree that this is just Hollywood. But a lot of people do watch these programs that portrays our profession badly. If for example, a kid would watch this, a certain part of his belief would set a bias to nurses as being unprofessional.

Totally unrealistic, all of them. Mercy had their nurse shoot a guy in a bar, then go right back to work? Now she has post traumatic disorder, of course. Have not seen trauma enough but I'm sure its the same crap. How about Grey's, now theres a realistic show, all care pretty much done by interns, you only see a nurse when they are telling her off. How many sex scenes have to happen in a closet. I enjoy the shows on flipping houses, fixing them ect...I'm sure there is a spin on them also, but it usually does not offend people.

The scenes with sex in the supply rooms/closets...somebody has way too much time on their hands. In real life, a nurse is lucky to have a chance to go pee-pee!!!

Trauma is mainly about the paramedics, not doctors or nurses. I've been watching it and I like it. It was canceled because it was the most expensive show on TV to make. Realistic? maybe not, but enjoyable? For me, yes.
