Ga Board of Nurses by Endorsement questions & Frustrations

Published

Hi, just wanted to vent first. I am trying to transfer my license to Ga. Every time I call them with a question, I am put on hold from 30min to an hour. I'm trying to get my questions organized so I don't need to call them back but Grrrrr.... Just had a few more questions and have been on hold for 50 minutes so far.

My question... If my current state participates in Nursys do I need to send that paperwork to my state that they require (proving you are licensed... Sending it to the state where you are licensed)? Should I turn my application in before I register for the website to get fingerprinted? The lady u talked with at cogentin or whatever it's called said usually you get your app in first bc fingerprints only last for 30 days. What else should I print with my application? Marriage license? I recently got married. Nursing license, social security card, and drivers license. This is a big head ache. Thanks for your help.

I am so worried but now I am a bit relieved by just a few of the positive experiences with GBON. I am trying to get licensed in GA (moving there from FL). And this is what I have lined up; print/fill out application, get verification of education letter from school, register at Cogent, get fingerprinted at my local sheriff's office and mail everything out the same day. I believe fingerprints are mailed to a different location though. I was told that GBON meet once a month to go over applicants. I will let you all know how it went.

Sending out all documents by Aug. 27th, 2014.

My application arrived in Macon on the 28th. Will see what happens! :-)

As of today, I have an active Georgia license! Although a military ID is one of their secure/verifiable documents listed on the application, on Friday I received an email requesting a copy of my drivers license or passport. Rather than argue, I scanned in my drivers license and emailed it. So not a bad process at all, even with a small hiccup. :)

I am trying to get the GA license by endorsement. The problem is Cogent to get the finger print/background check. You must have the ORI?OAC number or it can't be done. I have called the GA Nursing Board at least 50 times and never gotten through. I have let the phone stay on hold for over an hour...it just says over and over "The wait time is nine minutes." I called the Secretary of State's office with the same results. I emailed the board and no response. HELLO! IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?....Pink Floyd

The ORI/OAC is listed on the first page of the endorsement application instructions under number 9. Additionally, complete instructions for obtaining a background check are available on the Board's website under "Licensure" and "Criminal Background Check."

Thanks jamesc, got it. Now to get fingerprinted. So far cost has been $142.50 and still can't get through to the Georgia Board.

All calls for the Georgia Board of Nursing are routed to the Call Center for the Professional Licensing Boards Division of the Office of Secretary of State. Hopefully you will be able to get through soon.

I'm still a student nurse, studying in another state, but I plan on moving to GA for work. Would it be wise to just board in GA, or board in Hawaii, where I am now, and then try to transfer my license via endorsement?

I wanted to share my experience as I've scowered (sp?) this website for other people's experiences with the endorsement process. I am an RN in Utah, have been for 2.5 years. We are potentially planning a move to Georgia. The obvious first step is getting licensed so I can find work. The first thing that I did was get fingerprinted and send it back to OH for the background check. That arrived in OH on Nov 17 and my background check, according to their website, was available Nov 18. (note: according to cogents website the background check is only good for 30 days) After learning that tidbit, I sent my completed application and fee with all necessary documentation to the GA BON. It arrived Nov 25. (note: I completed my licensure verification on nursys and included a copy of my official transcript with my application) On Dec 2, the application was entered into the system and was track able. I checked today (dec 5) and I no longer could track my application so I checked if I had a License number and sure enough, I'm licensed in GA as of Dec 4. Total time.. 4 actual business days as Thanksgiving was between nov 25 and dec 4. I think the key is to assure everything is ready by the time they are reviewing your application. Literally, everything was right with my application and they just needed to review the background and nursys info. I hope this offers someone a little bit of encouragement that it can be a fast process.

Please please I need help!! I am graduating next week in New York State and my school pushing me to get nys license and transfer it Georgia state since I will start there to work end of January (orientation) . I am so worry that if it's take forever to transfer my license and I would screw up. I already rent my apt in Georgia and ready to move in January. So should I really listen my school and initially apply nys license or just appy Georgia license directly ?

No. It's not up to your school. I would take the nclex in the state you plan on working in immediately after licensure.

Contact the Ga BON for advice and as others have said look to maybe that the boards in GA instead of NY - I would also check w/the Ga BON on that
