Ga Board of Nurses by Endorsement questions & Frustrations

When I moved to Georgia from Wisconsin I basically just filled out the form on the state licensing page. I don't remember it being complicated.

As far as the marriage/name change I got mine done in this order: Social Security, Driver's, Nursing Licence.

Not sure what your timeline is, but I would also discuss it with my employer and see if they have any advice.

What is up with the finger printing?

Hi! I just got my GA license by endorsement which took about 2,5 months. I think the process is self-explanatory. I have no idea about Nursys, so I am skipping this question.

First step, I sent the application itself. I included the following papers: letters from employers from HR saying where I worked and the total number of hours, the college transcript, the consent which comes with the form, notarized signature which you get for free from your bank. No need for your marriage license unless it affects the name change. So, I sent the copies of driver's license and my green card copy. If you are US citizen, a copy of your passport if you have it. Also copy social security card. So, I mailed all these documents first.

I didn't tell my manager I am moving, but just went to HR and asked them to fiil out the paper for work verification, it was no problem.

Then I registered for fingerprints and got them done. Make sure to register online first before getting your blue cards fingerprints, because you need to include your registration number on your blue cards for fingerprints. They ask for 2 blue cards just in case, I did 3, but used only 1! So, it was just waste of money. My recommendation is to get just 1 blue fingerprint card, in case they can't use it if your fingerprints are bad, you'll go and get the second and save yourself 20$. So, I sent fingerprints separately a couple of weeks later when all initial documentation was processed.

Another thing you need is the proof of your current license. You request it from the board of your state through their website and they have to to send to Georgia. That's it.

And yeh, you are on hold forever and you have to listen to some kind of southern music:)

But, I called everyone involved, such as GA Board of Nurses, IL Board to make sure they verified my IL license and Cogent. I called all these places couple times to make sure all my documents are in and just to bug these people because you have to!If you don't, the process will take forever! I learned it over years of applying and changing passports, citizenships, green cards, visas... what not! :) It might seem frustrating, but it's not that bad, just follow instructions and call them to make sure all papers are in. Good luck!

I am currently waiting for my license to transfer from alabama. I sent my paperwork in over a month ago and I have received nothing back not even an email and I cant seem to get through to anyone. Its very frustrating.

I am trying to do the same with the SAME frustrations! Does anyone know exactly who to make the money order for $60 out to? The application says "Professional Licensing Boards" is THAT really the title, or is it a generic term for whatever Board you happen to be applying to, in this case the Georgia Board of Nursing? I also paid for Nursys, now do they still want the paper sent to my Florida Nursing Board? Because the application says to prevent delays, include paper verification. Then WHY also write that we should use Nursys? I can't even get through to the telephone number 478-207-2440. It's just a constant busy signal. I paid $57 today to the cogent system, got registered, and already got my finger prints done. Now after reading these comments, I found out that they may only be good for 30 days, but that the Georgia Board of Nursing takes almost 3 months to process.

I am so scared. I took the NCLEX on June 4th and the NC BON has not given me a license number yet. I am just about to die of anxiety because I landed a job in GA and my orientation is June 24th with an alternative date of July 22nd... at this point I know the 24th's a wash but I'm starting to be terrified that I'll miss the July 22nd date, too. Are there any GOOD stories of it taking less than a month for the GA BON to approve licensure by endorsement? Someone please tell me that there are...

I just was issued my WI license on Wednesday and expressed my application for endorsement yesterday. I am hoping they can get it done by middle of July! Fingers crossed. I read that form over and over to make sure I did not miss anything! So frustrating!

Hi, just wanted to vent first. I am trying to transfer my license to Ga. Every time I call them with a question, I am put on hold from 30min to an hour. I'm trying to get my questions organized so I don't need to call them back but Grrrrr.... Just had a few more questions and have been on hold for 50 minutes so far.

My question... If my current state participates in Nursys do I need to send that paperwork to my state that they require (proving you are licensed... Sending it to the state where you are licensed)? Should I turn my application in before I register for the website to get fingerprinted? The lady u talked with at cogentin or whatever it's called said usually you get your app in first bc fingerprints only last for 30 days. What else should I print with my application? Marriage license? I recently got married. Nursing license, social security card, and drivers license. This is a big head ache. Thanks for your help.

Ok now I'm getting anxiety after reading these posts. I read the application over and over and I just sent my application with everything for endorsement (I'm moving from NJ to Georgia) July 1st. I already have a job lined up because I'm working for the same company just transferring. But without a license I can not work, if I can't work I can't get paid I have a question do I still need to get my finger prints done if I'm already actively working as an LPN?

Yes. Every state seems to require fingerprints.

All I can say is be patient. The secretary of state for GA had funding cuts so there's fewer people processing applications, and they require extra documentation to even renew existing licenses this time around (I had to upload a copy of my driver's license, social security card, and current nursing license to renew and I've had mine for 6 years). Some of the other professional licenses have taken months to renew but they tried to streamline it for nurses. Try calling first thing in the morning when they open, either 8 or 8:30 to hopefully get a jump on the crowds.

So I have some good news. I sent my application for endorsement in on June 14th and received my license yesterday! Only about a week. I guess just make sure you have everything in your packet that is asked and it probably was easier for me because I didn't have any work as an RN since I just graduated and received my WI license at the beginning of June.
