Funny Nursing Dreams

Published

We all have had them - Funny and sometimes scary nursing related dreams. I had one today.

I was at work witha terrible assignment....40 Tele patients by myself.....As I went room to room assessing my patients and passing meds....An elephant (yes an elephant) with Cher on top of it comes crashing down the hallway. Cher says to me, "I need antibiotics for MRSA....I usually drive but this elephant comes in handy to speed things along." Then as if this dream is not funny enough, My patients begin to gather around me, the elephant and Cher in the hallway in a circular formation and begin to sing "If I Could Turn Back Time".

WHat does this mean? lol!!!

I woke up one time sleep walking (i worked a WAY too many shifts in a row and was WAY overtired) and i was standing in front of the tv trying to sort out why I couldnt see any waveforms on my 'monitor'. :)

i don't typically remember my dreams, but i often wake up my husband in my sleep because i am trying to reposition him so that he can breathe better, and then insist that he keep is o2 nc in place. he said that one time he woke up and i was taking his carotid pulse. he woke me up and asked me to take his femoral pulse instead! ha!:D he is in the medical field too, and since i have to go to bed much earlier than he does (i wake up at 0430 every morning) he will come to bed and i will be talking in my sleep about something that happened during the day. he tells me that he will carry on entire conversations with me just for entertainment!
love this![/i]

Did I post this already? I once had a dream that I had undergone a TURP - in a hospital bed with all that irrigation etc. - but I am a girl!

I had a horrible dream last night! I dreamed I was getting this woman ready for surgery and she got sick. She vomited and vomited and vomited some more, and I remember thinking, oh great, there's no way I'm not going to get sick.

Then anesthesia came in the room and wanted the pt to stand up. She stood up and immediately fell down. Crap! I'm thinking. Now I have to write up an incident report. I was very glad when I woke up and realized it was just a dream.

I took her blood pressure and she was 90/52. I told the family, "Don't give her her metoprolol." But they disagreed and gave her metoprolol, lisinopril and a few other blood pressure medications.

I am 48....90/50ish is my normal BP....and my daily meds are metoprolol and lisinopril.... Glad I don't bottom out like granny in your dreams!!!! (BTW, it is not for HBP)

Recently I had a very weird dream about a girl who tried to commit suicide by swallowing a tree (yes a tree.... trunk, leaves, roots and all) When I asked her how she managed to do this...she told me that she saw a root, and started to eat it. The tree was wrapped and tangled around her throat, lungs, and stomach. None of the doctors would attempt to help her. She died in my arms, but I wasn't willing to give up.

.........

So I had to try and convince the doctors to operate on her to save her life. They weren't too thrilled about the idea of operating on her. I finally rounded up an anesthesiologist, a cardiologist, a pulmologist, and a general surgeon to help. After some ego stroking, the decided to operate.

The four surgeons started operating, and I woke up. What a weird dream.

Should have called a tree surgeon :smokin:

I dreamed once that I was trying to convince a giraffe to go into a tent and it wouldn't cooperate so I asked one of our pulmonologists, who conveniently happened to be standing nearby, what to do. He said in a very annoyed tone of voice, "Just open up the flap and tell him to get on in there!" Also, years ago I had a thankfully brief stint working 7P/7A in CVICU. Now I am not a night person. Can't sleep in the daytime. I had just fallen asleep one Saturday afternoon when I became aware of a loud humming sound. Opening my eyes cautiously I realized the entire room was going MMMMMMMMMMM even the mattress, the walls and the floor. Know what it was? The GOODYEAR BLIMP going over my house on the way to a football game!!!!!! If I had only had a BB gun I'd have brought that sucker down and they'd never have suspected it was me.

I actually just HURT myself laughing at that!

The other day, I was sending a patient to receive an angiography towards the end of my shift. She voided in the hat en route to the stretcher. Well, I get home and I'm about to fall asleep and realize I forgot to empty her hat.

Anyway, I dreamed that one of the attending hospitalists (not even her hospitalist group) found out that I forgot to do that and he started yelling at me. Not that funny but I was a bit paranoid going back to work that night!

I've had a few weird nurse dreams. This one was a new dream in an old familiar style.

Last night I was at work in my head. I had a patient load of 4 patients. Toward the end of the shift I got a call from a physician wanting to see if his patient was ready to go home. Hmm, this patient's name was familiar, and yes I had a report sheet on him, but I hadn't SEEN the patient all day! I went running in a cold panic across an elaborate bridge system to the patients room (a tree house) and did an assessment. The patient was stable and pleased to be going home, and didn't even remark on the fact that I was only now checking on him. It all seemed very real, never mind that treehouse thing.

I only knew it was a dream when my scrub pants (I was wearing) kept disappearing and I'd be walking around the unit in a scrub top and underpants.

You know that dream where you realize you have a test in a class you haven't been to or opened the book for all semester? So you rush off to take the test and show up and realize that somehow in your hurry to get there to the test, you forgot to dress? This was that dream, career style.

Had one the other night where we had an emergent c-section and I could not for the life of me get to the OR. I had to take elevators and go in secret doors. When I finally did get there I was way up in one of those viewing areas they had/have for students to watch, but I couldn't get to the patient. I kept telling them they needed to set up two warmers because the woman was having twins.

I had a dream last night that I was being chased by a large bottle of NPH *shakes head*:uhoh3:

I had a patient with huge T waves on the monitor one night, K was fine. When I went to bed that day I dreamed that my patient was having sine waves on the monitor but I couldn't get any doctor to order anything until finally the patient went asystole but they were a dnr so they died. I woke up still furious!
