Funny Nursing Dreams

Published

We all have had them - Funny and sometimes scary nursing related dreams. I had one today.

I was at work witha terrible assignment....40 Tele patients by myself.....As I went room to room assessing my patients and passing meds....An elephant (yes an elephant) with Cher on top of it comes crashing down the hallway. Cher says to me, "I need antibiotics for MRSA....I usually drive but this elephant comes in handy to speed things along." Then as if this dream is not funny enough, My patients begin to gather around me, the elephant and Cher in the hallway in a circular formation and begin to sing "If I Could Turn Back Time".

WHat does this mean? lol!!!

ANy funny nursing related dreams???

Omg.........How am I going to make it through this whole thread if only the 1st post put me in stitches like that? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :yeah:

What a great thread! I've had several strange dreams related to nursing, but I think that the best ones came from the last semester of nursing school when I was so frazzled that I almost fell apart. One night, I woke myself up because I was sleeptalking so loudly to my fiance. I was telling him, out loud, that his 7 year old daughter (he has no children) should stop eating so much pineapple because she was just diagnosed with diabetes and might go into DKA.

This second one wasn't a dream, but I think it's pretty funny in retrospect. One night, I woke up because my fiance came home from work, got into bed, and gave me a kiss. My internal clock was destroyed at the time because I'd been doing overnight doubles. I got very upset and told him that he wasn't authorized to kiss me because we hadn't paged the on-call doctor to get an order for it.

These are classic too. LOL

I had a dream that I went to answer a call light and when I went to enter patients room they had a clothes line with clothes hanging off of it and a cow in the room,I thought to myself wow patients really do get everything they want now days.

Some of these stories are really funny and/or creepy lol

Can't wait to become a nurse myself. I find myself dreaming about being a nurse all the time!

Three dreams come to mind, all from my first few months as a nurse.

1. I must have been dreaming about work (I don't actually remember the dream), because I woke up extremely concerned about a pt's blood glucose. I apparently shook my husband awake and demanded to know if he had checked the glucose like I requested. After a few seconds, I "came to" and realized what I was saying. My husband just rolled his eyes and went back to sleep. He's such a good sport! :D

2. I had a dream about four months after I graduated from nursing school (and had been working as an RN for, well, four months) that I had forgotten to turn in a huge paper and I wasn't going to graduate. I actually woke up in a cold sweat, heart pounding, and it took me a few moments to realize that a) I had already graduated, b) I had been working as an RN for several months already, and c) I had, in fact, worked the night before and I should really get back to sleep since I was scheduled to work that evening, as well.

3. This dream stemmed from a comical conversation I had with a brand new resident when I was a brand new RN. I had to call him for orders on a pt toward the beginning of my (NOC) shift, and he wound up stopping by the floor so we chatted in person for a few minutes. He was a really personable fellow and we had a nice chat. Fast forward 11 hours to near the end of my shift, when I had to call him again regarding a pt. He was close by so he just came to my unit. After we got the pt straightened out (I don't remember the details) he asked me with a completely innocent, straight face, "So did it finally settle down enough last night to where you could get some sleep?" It was at that moment I realized that MDs sometimes (or most of the time) have little idea of what we do!

Anyway, a few days after this conversation, I had a dream that I came to work very tired, so after my 2000 assessments, I decided to take a "quick nap". I, of course, didn't wake up until 0600 and realized, with horror, that all 5 of my post-open heart patients had been unattended for 10 hours. That was a seriously scary dream!

:lol2::lol2::lol2: Very funny!!!

I have two dreams to tell.

First, background. We carry cell phones at work so physicians can call us back directly. Now this first one is sort of a dream. I was at work and I kept hearing my work cell phone go off. I picked it up and answered it, but no one was there. About 9 minutes later, it rang again. I answered it and no one was there. After about 5 times of this happening, I woke up to realize it was the alarm on my cell phone at home, and I was going to be late for work.

The second one is a dream. I dreamed that my fiance's grandmother was very ill at home, but would not agree to a home health nurse. So we went to visit her so I could help. I took her blood pressure and she was 90/52. I told the family, "Don't give her her metoprolol." But they disagreed and gave her metoprolol, lisinopril and a few other blood pressure medications. So my fiance and I left to go to the movies at the mall. While we were watching Birth of a Nation in 3D, the family came running into the theatre. "She's very weak! Help!" So we flew on an airplane the five miles back to the house and when I took her blood pressure again, she was 64/26.

According to my fiance, that night, about 1 a.m., I sat up straight in bed and screamed "64/26" and then laid down and went back to sleep. I have no recollection of such a scream... but I remember the dream vividly!

A while back, I dreamed that, during report to dayshift, the oncoming dayshift charge started yelling at us all to run off the floor and wouldn't take time to answer questions. We all took of running, but before we made it off the floor, she yelled for us to turn back and hit the floor. We stopped, confused, and then Godzilla charged the floor, swinging his tail and attacking. All of us hit the floor, and I tackled a CNA, who I promptly covered with my body like some movie hero. I then yanked her into a roll across the floor when Godzilla swung his tail at us. A pt jumped up and yelled at Godzilla and attacked him with some object or other I can't recall. Pt gets killed, but at the same time kills Godzilla. Whole time I'm like, this has got to be a dream, but something keeps happening to tell me that it isn't . We all wander off the floor, stunned, and Obama is spinning some political crap about Godzilla, sinking it in to me in the dream that this was not a dream. We wander back to the floor where we finish report after making sure that the pregnant nurse was okay (one of the aides took care of her. she was fine). The charge nurse mentioned something about the hospital arranging to get a Godzilla disaster plan.

Dream ended when, after report and leaving and everything, I came back to the floor with some cute guy to show him what happened.

It was so weird. I dream odd things after working two really intense nights in a row. :lol2::D

I've had that terrible dream where I realize it's the end of my shift, and I've totally forgotten about one patient. Then I'm afraid to go in his room because he's probably dead now, due to my neglect.

Do you know how often I've had that dream? Well, let's say I can't count anymore! The worst specific dream in that series involved me forgetting about a patient then having to give report to my manager in the morning! She wasn't happy.

My favorite involved me visiting some friends in Georgia (I live 700 miles north) and when I walked in the living room, who was there but a patient on our floor we were having trouble placing in a skilled nursing facility. He's MR but high functioning, and he was sitting in a Geri chair in their living room, wearing his hospital gown, watching TV with his Bible in his lap, just like at the hospital. My friends said, "oh yeah, we've adopted him!" I went back to work expecting him to have been placed in a private home down south!

Thankfully I don't share my bed or room with anyone but pets, so who knows what fun things I say and do in my sleep. Whoever I marry is probably in for a treat!

Recently I had a very weird dream about a girl who tried to commit suicide by swallowing a tree (yes a tree.... trunk, leaves, roots and all) When I asked her how she managed to do this...she told me that she saw a root, and started to eat it. The tree was wrapped and tangled around her throat, lungs, and stomach. None of the doctors would attempt to help her. She died in my arms, but I wasn't willing to give up.

I started CPR, and she came back around. She then told me that she wanted to live. I had the thought that if I could grab the tree root (which was closest to her throat), I could pull it out. I wasn't able to grab more than a peice, and it broke off. She started to choke, so, I had one of the people in the room run out to find a doctor.

The person that I sent out to get help ended up getting attacked in the hallway by someone or something. So, I had to go out and save the life of the person in the hallway. When I came back into the room, the girl was breathing, but just barely.

So I had to try and convince the doctors to operate on her to save her life. They weren't too thrilled about the idea of opereating on her. I finally rounded up an anesteologist, a cardiologist, a pulmologist, and a general surgen to help. After some ego stroking, the decided to operate.

The four surgeons started operating, and I woke up. What a weird dream.

So... last night I had a scary nursing dream.

In my dream my BF was covered in blood, then he started to pee out this bright red blood, full of clots. He told me that this happens all the time, especially when he drinks, and that he had fibroids in his bladder.

He REFUSED to go to the doctor, telling me that this was normal for him.

I woke up, and the first thing I asked, was had he peed out any blood, he said no, and I told him the dream, and burst out laughing....at least he was able to get a laugh out of my scary dream.....

I don't typically remember my dreams, but I often wake up my husband in my sleep because I am trying to reposition him so that he can breathe better, and then insist that he keep is O2 NC in place. He said that one time he woke up and I was taking his carotid pulse. He woke me up and asked me to take his femoral pulse instead! HA!:D He is in the medical field too, and since I have to go to bed much earlier than he does (I wake up at 0430 every morning) he will come to bed and I will be talking in my sleep about something that happened during the day. He tells me that he will carry on entire conversations with me just for entertainment!

Been there, done that. :lol2:

I work in the OR, so the monitors are constantly audible. I woke up frantic one time because my alarm was going off and I thought my pt was taching up!

I had a lady with a PICC for a few days running, who would continually bend her arm up, and then repeatedly complain that she couldn't understand why the stupid pump kept alarming.

for three nights all I heard in my dreams was the ding- ding-dong of an occluded plum pump.
