FSCJ Summer 2011 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Florida

Is there anyone planning to apply for FSCJ's Summer 2011 RN program? I am taking A&PI and II next semester with Human Growth and Dev. and Sociology, then I'll apply. I am taking Microbiology during the spring prior to going into the program. I am taking the Nat in September after Chem 1032. What about you?

I've been looking into transferring from FSCJ's ADN program into UNF or another University in Florida to get my BSN. I'm not planning on getting my BSN from FSCJ because you have to work 2000 hours as a RN before attempting to get into their BSN track. It ends up taking two more months going this route (FSCJ then to UNF). If I were to just get into the UNF BSN program it would only take 5 semesters (taking all the classes at UNF in their two year BSN program) rather than 7 semesters (getting my ADN from FSCJ then going to UNF). I'm not applying for UNF's two year BSN program though because I got a C in A and P II and for there you need a high gpa to be considered. Not saying my gpa isn't high. Like I said I have 106 points for my pre reqs. What are your plans?

I plan to get my ADN from FSCJ because worksource will pay 100% for a degree that takes less than 2 years and FSCJ is cheapest. JU has an online BSN program. They also have an RN-MSN program. This would be the more expensive route, so I don't know. My goal is to graduate with my BSN with no student loan debt. So, I will consider working until I can qualify for FSCJ's BSN program or I will work and go to school parttime at UNF.

Hi everybody!

I am shooting for the 2011 Fall Term @ FSCJ's ADN program!

I am so excited that this is my last semester as far as those pre reqs go. I just hope that they dont go up any higher on the cutoff for points! I brought the Nursing School and Allied Health entrance exam test booklet. I have been told that these books really do not help but I have been studying it for a couple of months. I hope it helps just a little bit. Im glad to know that they give you so little time to get the math questions answered, now I will know how to go about answering them.

Good Luck everybody!

Yea, I know a few people who are at JU now and it is very pricey. That's awesome that worksource will pay up to two years for you to go to school.

JU is pricey but they offer a ton of help and scholarships to offset the cost, so dont count it out.:D

I cant decide if i wanna shoot for fscj, or try to go for the BSN.

Well here's the pros and cons to the BSN track at UNF. Since I go to school at UNF now I am constantly talking to the advisers. To get into the UNF BSN track you have to have your AA degree completed and you need to have a reasonably high pre req GPA. The average gpa of the nursing students they just admitted for fall was a 3.7. You must know this though, they have recently revised the pre req classes. You need either intro to psychology or intro to sociology, you do not need both now. Also you can replace your chem class with another science course. But with the program at UNF your gpa isn't everything. You also need to have a high TEAS score. Don't forget you are only allowed to take the TEAS once per application. With these two things it may win you a chance to get an interview. The interview is the biggest deciding factor of them all. Like I said before it will take 5 semesters to finish your BSN at UNF. Whereas if you get your ADN at FSCJ then transfer it will take three semesters plus the four you already took at FSCJ. So you're looking at 2 more semesters of schooling if you go the FSCJ route. In that same note they only take 48 people two times a year at UNF. FSCJ takes 4 times that amount in one year. I personally cannot go for UNF because without being able to retake a and p II that C pulls my gpa down to a 3.5. With them taking out that extra social science pre req any C is detrimental to the overall pre req gpa. I have also heard something else about UNF. UNF is more paper oriented and less hands on. You get more clinical hours at FSCJ. Hopefully that helped you some.

Thanks K Nurse-One-Day, I won't count JU out totally. Also 77, you have helped me as well. I'm definitely going to FSCJ for the ADN, then I'll decide what's next when I get to that point. For now, I'm working hard to maintain my grades so I can get into the RN program which the prereqs are a bit overwhelming by themselves.

Thank u both. excellent advice. UNF would be awesome. my GPA all together right now is only 3.2 but thats still with this semester to finish, and 3 more classes next semester. My pre-req GPA is 3.5. Idk if I can pull it up to the 3.7 area by then, but we'll see

hey everyone

I just started the nursing program at FSCJ in august 2010. feel free to message me if you have any questions!

i went to UNF for 2 years, applied to their BSN program with a 3.5 and did not get an interview. but i got into FSCJ so it's all good :D

good luck in pre reqs!

This is a question for those that have taken Chemistry and AP2 simultaneously or that have taken the NAT...

Can it be done? Were you able to get As in both?

Also, do you think you have learned enough to take the NAT while still learning Chem & AP2? Did you take the NAT before starting Microbiology? How did you do?

The reason I ask these questions is that I am currently in AP1 (I have surprised myself by maintaining an A so far), then I plan to take Chem & AP2 in Spring 2011, lastly I will take Micro in Summer 2011.

In the meantime, I was considering taking the NAT in May 2011 after completing Chem & AP2 so that I can apply by the June 1st cut-off date. (I am so impatient)

I am also considering taking the NAT in February 2011 (again very impatient) while still in Chem & AP to see what it's like and determine what I really need to focus on before retaking it (that is if I have to retake it)

What do you think? Oh yeah, do we have to wait 90 days before retaking the NAT? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

NJ

NJ,

I am in AP2 and Chemistry this semester, as well as 2 other classes and have managed to hold an A in both. I also took the NAT about a month ago. I would say, go ahead and take the NAT, there is some stuff on there from Micro, but I will be retaking it in January, and will be in Micro then. I am glad I took it before Micro, so I will know what to expect. All I can say for the two classes is, make sure you get good teachers, research them figure out which ones will work for you best. My chem teacher is at deerwood, and my AP2 teacher is at the downtown campus, so I have two different drives, but worth the teachers I have.

Hi LaceyRae,

Thanks for replying..I feel more confident in my decision now. I wish I was already in AP2 and Chem so I could take it at least one time this year.
