FSCJ Summer 2011 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Florida

Is there anyone planning to apply for FSCJ's Summer 2011 RN program? I am taking A&PI and II next semester with Human Growth and Dev. and Sociology, then I'll apply. I am taking Microbiology during the spring prior to going into the program. I am taking the Nat in September after Chem 1032. What about you?

I read that the lowest score for Fall 2010 was 204.24 with 144 seats available.

The cutoff for fall was 201.2. Highest its ever been...CRAZY:eek:

and that was with 165 seats!!!

Yikes!! I talk to a lot of Nursing school hopefuls in some of my prereq courses and I recommend getting tutoring if necessary in order to get an A in your classes because the competition is so high. Someone also recommending taking hybrids (ie. 8-12 weeks) courses by themselves or with an easy class. I'm taking A&P I&II in one semester, both eight week courses. A&PI (kent) & Human G&D(online) from 8/30-10/24 and A&PII (kent) & Sociology(online) from 10/25-12/17. Two classes at a time, but 14 credits.

I am taking Chem and ap1 this fall. I have been stressing b/c I realized that I was planning to take a/p2 w/ micro in Spring term, meaning i couldn't apply till fall due to having to have a/p2 finished b4 applying. Now that I'm seeing some of you taking a/p1&2 in one semester, I'm thinking, holy cow! why didn't I think of looking at shorter classes! I didn't even think about it, I was so focused on finding the best professor. I wonder if its too late for me to take both in fall. Which profs or reference numbers are you taking???

Is it S...E and J.........S..... in A8 and C8? (for ap1&2, see above post)

btw, is there anyone that thinks it's insane to take the 8wk a&p classes????

I personally wouldn't take an 8 week A&P class. I'm about to finish up A&P I online and it is a lot to learn even as a full term course.:yawn:

ETA: and I wouldn't take both at once either way. Wowza. I admire those who can and come out with a good score, though.

@Str8Aspls:

Have you heard from others who have done it and made good grades? Do you feel you are super good at memorizing, doing lots of tests, etc?

I have been asking around on the forum and stuff and most people (ok, 2 or 3) are saying it's too tough even in a full 16wk session to try and cram it. One person said the info is too important to cram and risk not remembering, as it's info you will use all the time in NS and as a nurse. What do you think? I'm tempted to do it. Just trying to get some backup!!!!

P.s. Just rec'd a reply back from one of the instructors and they said "It is not about completing classes, but about learning the material so that you may succeed in the nursing program. If you are not sure about that, ask my former students." Point taken!

I am in an 8 week A&P1 class right now, but on campus, and it definately is not easy, nor would it ever be. But I am making decent grades, all A's and B's, its not an A, but I told myself I most likely would not have come out with an A either way. You just have to put your mind to it and say to yourself, there is no choice. If you want this bad enough, just do it.

Goodluck!

@Lacey:

That's awesome! Are you taking anything else at the same time? I will be taking Chemistry for the A16 session, and I don't have any science background. :uhoh3:

However, I usually make good grades, and I feel pretty confident about my memorization ability. Hmmm, I'm stuck on this decision!

Thanks for your reply!

If you are currently taking (or anyone that has taken it) do you feel that you are retaining the info in the 8week course??? I know we will be using it every day in our field, so I don't want to just remember it well enough to make the grade!

anyone taken college algebra online? Im considering taking one online and I am wondering how it will go

Hi All! I am a Spring 2011 hopefull as well. I was wondering if there was anyone on here (or if you know someone) in the same situation as me. I have a BS in Health Science Education, and was on the nursing track at UF when I changed my major. So I have all of the pre-reqs required for UF's nursing program, and wanted to make sure that they carried over as the same pre-reqs for FSCJ's program. I have not spoken to an advisor yet, but thought I would test the waters here.

Also, does anyone have any specific study guide that they used for the NAT? I have not taken it yet, but want to try to make the best score possible the first time. I have already done the practice test on the PSB site.

I am trying for the nights/weekends classes, since I will have to be working full time while in school. I work in Corporate Fitness/Wellness now, and have decided on a career change into nursing.

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Morgan
