  1. Hi all, My experience has been in Cardiac Telemetry and Wound Care. I've started working at a clinic in Haiti. We get a lot of sick babies. Many super young, like less than 1 month, and up to 1 year old. They come in super sick, with respiratory distress, O2 in the 70-80s, severe anemia, blood sugars too low for meter to read, extreme malnutrition. We refer those out to inpatient care at facilities we trust. The issue is that they will report that the kid has gotten stable, and is on the track to recovery. Then like 1-2 weeks later, they end up dying. I'm wondering why, if they started doing well, did they turn back the other way??? Can anyone answer this? Thanks! Jessica P. 2. All the threads on days vs. nights that I've read on here focus on the perspective of workload and unit relations. I will be starting my first RN position soon, and I'd like to hear from people about the family life perspective. I have small children and have heard a lot of people say they like nights because they are always free to attend their children's school events, etc. But then I've heard some say that they're always tired on days off, and lose a day off to sleeping. My one friend who is on days says she may not ever see her kids/family on the days she works (7p-7a) b/c they are not up when she leaves and it's almost bedtime when she gets home, BUT on her days off she's not exhausted, so they can deal with it on the days they don't see her. That said, one of my kids has had a really hard time with my absence during nursing school, when I've been off to study and they don't see me before bed, etc... so I'm not sure how being on days would affect him. What are your thoughts and advice from this perspective? Thanks
  3. Hi Everyone, I'm a 2nd termer, VP of Student Nurses Association. I'd like to first congratulate you on getting in!!! Also, wanted to let you know that the SNA will be at your orientation tomorrow to share about this great organization, as well as doing a couple fundraisers during your breaks. We will be selling gently used clinical uniforms and possibly some FSCJ blue polo shirts for any donation, custom embroidered badge reels for $5, and raffling off a stethoscope for $1/ticket. So come prepared with a little cash!!! Looking forward to seeing you there! Jessica Proffit
  4. Not sure. Maybe you can call the testing center?
  5. lbtate or a11:11, Would you mind sharing how many points you had? Just wondering to see if there's a chance some others I know might also get "the call." :)
  6. Thanks for sharing IG. Also, First Uniform has the cherokee for around $14. They are in the building across the street from SHands, that houses Shands Employee Health. I'm not sure of the exact name of the building, but you can probably get it by googling First Uniform, 8th Street.
  7. @NJ, Maybe you can get the county to write a letter stating that they destroy the old records??? I know your pain. don't let this stop you. do everything in your power to make it happen. You've come this far!!!
  8. Um, yeah, so a 40" bust on Meridy's is a Medium????
  9. Hey Yall! ACTIVE COUPON CODE for MediSave (Stethoscope, etc...) $5 OFF! FACEB11 is the code
  10. @NJ: I have wide feet too! I tried on sooooo many shoes and insoles today! The New Balance walking shoes I tried on yesterday were somewhat comfortable, but reallllly not cute! Not even close! Although they are online for around $50. They are a New Balance WW811 or 812. The ones I found today at JC Penney blow those NB out of the water!!!!! I think I got them for about $60. My dad said to splurge the most on shoes. I was about to order these $100 Professional Timberland nursing shoes from Zappos until it dawned on me....when I am in school, I will only be in a clinical a couple/few times a week. When I get out in the real world (J-O-B) I will (hopefully) have a little more choice than "white, leather, non-fabric" in which case I will splurge on the best type, but also the best (cute) style for me! So for now, I'm sticking with these Easy Spirits. I have to go get the wide at another location tomorrow, but b/c I bought these today, she hooked me up with a 15% off coupon! Also, for what it's worth, the shoe lady at Penney's thought they were ok, even w/ the slight grey line. I said I didn't know if they were hard-core about it, and she said she didn't think FSCJ was, but that at Mayo they are strict! LOL In case anyone doesn't know, Zappos.com has free shipping and free returns. They have EXCELLENT ratings/reviews on most shoes.
  11. Got these today. HOpe the grey doesn't get me in trouble. It's hardly noticeable: http://www.zappos.com/product/7876098/color/53070
  12. Do y'all know if the khaki pants r allowed to have cargo pockets???? also, fyi, the uniform ship at Shane's has Cherokee drawstring white scrub pants for 15% off of $18.99!
  13. No, sorry. I just get things in my head and can't get them out!!! haha! Ok! I will not bother you about it anymore!! :) I've got to do something to keep my mind off of waiting for these people who are holding me up from making progress on my paperwork!!!
  14. SB, Did you erase the other group, or were you just able to change it? Worried about people getting mixed up and being split b/t the two pages...
