Free Professional Organizations for Nurses

Published

Do they exist? I know there are many paid memberships, but is there any free ones out there, does anyone know?

Thanks.

AN...

AN is a social group, not a professional nursing organization. You do not have to be a nurse to be here and most of the discussion is only vaguely related to professional topics.

So im guessing the answer is no. ?

Every professional organization I'm aware of charges annual dues. It costs money to run these organizations (maintain an office, publish a journal, communicate with members, offer an annual convention and other CE opportunities, etc.); where else is that money supposed to come from?

I would be v. suspicious of any "professional" organization that didn't charge dues.

I agree with Elkpark.. I don't know of any free ones, and would be very suspicious if there was a free one. The money to run the organization would be coming from somewhere. If not by the members then who?

There are many organizations that offer discounted memberships for new grads. ANA used to offer a free online membership to RN students ( only able to view journal online , limited benefits availed to paid memberships).

You should start one.

Non profit organizations are successful. I know it requires $ to make the world go round, my current employer stopped paying for every single certification once the economy started taking a serious nose dive. Its so expensive to keep up with all this stuff and raise a family! ! :-/

Even not-for-profit organizations charge membership fees. Many professional organizations are not for profit.

Say a specialty organization charges $200/y for membership. That comes out to less than $4.00/week. That's less than most people pay for their daily coffee intake.

If it's important enough to you, there's a way to pay for it.
