You are doing something to better BOTH of your lives. It WILL be hard work. In a year you will be a nurse and be able to find a job that supports you and your son.

Just remember to spend time with your son along this journey and enjoy him.

Surely these things just didn't dawn on you. You have your ducks in a row, your arrangements are made, you start tomorrow and you're just getting normal jitters.

Many single mothers with small kids have done this and the kids come out o.k. It's tough and there's a lot of guilt, but you can do this. Don't let last minute fears overwhelm you. You can do this!

You are experiencing normal anxiety...yep, NORMAL! :)

Everyone feels some sort of anxiety over starting something new. It is ok. Try to focus on today and not the "what ifs." I keep thinking I am going to fail out--but then have to practice some positive self talk.

You can do it! :)

Sometimes you have to make decisions in the short term that will help your family in the long term.

i started out as a nursing major at 18, then changed my major a few times because i was trying to find my niche. now, my son is my biggest motivator. i am doing this for myself, but more for him and his future. you have made a good decision because when your son starts school you will have a great career and can focus on his learning.

Hi im 23 years old, Im starting the LPN course tomorrow! i Have a 2 year old son and i am terrified. Im worried im going to neglect my son and also that i will fail at the course and ruin his life. anyone have any advice for a struggling single mom trying to make her way?.

It will be hard. I am a single Mom too when my husband deploys and he deploys a lot! So I understand your fears. However, there is no need to feel guilty. You in no way are neglecting your child by bettering your career options.

I have worked with neglectful Moms as a social worker and plenty stayed home with her kids and had them removed from the home! Career choice was not a factor; trust me! :uhoh21:

As another poster suggests, use your baby as your motivation. I am doubtful you will fail if you know you have no choice but to succeed.

as a mom who got a bachelor's while her children were between elementary and high school age, let me say that i think these words couldn't be truer. i wish i hadn't been so distracted with school and all that it entailed and would've been able to "just" work and concentrate on them.

while you may feel you're missing out on some time with your son, if you ensure he's in a good, safe, and loving environment when you can't be with him and that you're there with him emotionally when you can be, you'll both be great!!
