Fragrance Sacrifice

Published

Hi all!

I am wondering for all the nurses have you sacrificed smelling good for the health of your patients? I am wanting to wear my "Smell Good" But don't want to seem like it will choke my patients. Is a little okay or non at all?

Thank you!!

I spray a spritz in my car of light scent in my car the night before. That way I get a lift from the scent while not wearing any to work.

My car smells like teenage boy feet.

I don't wear anything most days. I spend good money on that stuff and my patients aren't going to appreciate it so I save it for my hubby when I am at home.

Hahaha That's Funny but cute.

Having spent most of my career in psych where body fragrances are a definite "No No" I stick to being clean. I use a lightly scented body wash and deodorant. My grandmother used to say a "Little dab of vanilla extract behind the ear drives a man to distraction because he thinks there may be fresh baked cookies nearby"

Hppy

Thank you all. I don't wear it to work but some times I want to smell a little bit of a woman, I guess I can say lol . I been in the Healthcare Field for about 4 years now and I don't wear it. It got to the point where when I am at home I forget to put perfume on lol. I just noticed a lot of people I work with have it on and smell so good and I feel bad if I was to wear perfume to work. I will try some lightly scented oils on my hand and see how well that works out for me

WOW!! and I love popcorn :( That would be hard for me then

Working with students is different than acute care, you can't expect to be fragrance free in public settings. Hospitals should be fragrance free. We aren't even allowed to pop popcorn on the floor.

That might just trump unwashed girls' soccer goalie gloves!:nailbiting:

And brings to mind a certain Seinfeld episode:

The valet BO episode. LOL.

That's probably the worst place to put it, your hands are the most likely things to be in close proximity to the patient. And I'd argue that I smell like a woman for not putting artificial chemical scent all over my body, actually.

As one who is ultra sensitive to fragrances---allergic/asthmatic reaction--please don't. Those things are horrible for people with sensitivities and can send some into severe bronchospasms. A lot of units are now banning fragrances. Does your agency have a policy?

Why would it be a "sacrifice" to not wear chemicals to work that can cause problems for some of your clients and coworkers??

I worked with a nurse years and years ago that wore avon's. Roses, roses, roses.

It was awfull--cloying and overpowering. We had so so many complaints. She knew about complaints but refused to stop wearing it at work.

I don't wear fragrance at work after that experience
