Hi all!
I am wondering for all the nurses have you sacrificed smelling good for the health of your patients? I am wanting to wear my "Smell Good" But don't want to seem like it will choke my patients. Is a little okay or non at all?
Thank you!!
^ OMG yes... every time I go to a public place that involves me sitting in a waiting room, I always get stuck sitting next to the dude who hasn't showered in a week and smells terrible. THAT bothers me more then someone who wears perfume.
I wear a quick spritz of perfume. I work in a clinic where we are only with patients for no more then 15-20 minutes at a time. It's a retail clinic, so its in a big open area. You really can't smell it unless you are right next to me. No one has really commented or said anything. But if and when I work at a hospital, I will stop. Unlike the patients in the clinic, they can't get up and walk away and have to deal with me for much longer. To be honest, I'm thinking of investing in a roller ball, so it's a dab and not a spritz. Much easier to control the amount and where it goes. It's pretty hard to get away from fragrance to be honest. Sometimes the laundry detergent people use is just as strong. I had a friend once that didn't really wear perfume at all and always smelled like laundry detergent, because the way her mom washed her clothes... it lingered. I used cheap stuff anyways. It wears off fairly quickly and I don't reapply throughout the day. Some people are obsessive about reapplying.
I have a tattoo... I really hope whatever future facilities I end up at don't have a ban on them. It's on my wrist and I got it long before I decided to pursue nursing. It's not offensive. Its a swirly heart thing with the gaelic word for sister. I think if the tattoo isn't offensive, then who cares.

There are also noseblind people who were not aware of their smell (poor hygiene) and that's even worse.
