For Fun - Things You Want to Buy Once You're a Nurse

Published

Ok, I know we should be frugal after we graduate and invest in retirement, pay off debt and student loans, etc. However, for a little fun, what kinds of things do you look forward to buying after you graduate and are working as a nurse?

For me: a Dyson vacuum cleaner ($500) and a set of NARS blushes ($200), the best blush on the planet. I've also been fixated on buying a Mini Cooper:

I suspect I'll buy the Dyson and NARS, but the Mini Cooper may just not be a good financial choice.

So what do you all want to buy?

I would like to buy myself a good credit score :chuckle

and lasik sp? eye surgery

Another thing I'd like to get...

Of course, we'd have to buy a vehicle big enough to tow it. My smart fortwo just won't cut it.

Maybe a nice GPS system so I won't keep getting lost!

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread but I am happy to see that things have turned from down in the dumps back to the brighter side of life.

When I graduate in May 2011 I want to buy a Lexus 400h, for myself.

I want my family to move back out to the country on some land again (10-20 acres) - a trip to Disney world - a truck for my husband....and for me.....an English Bulldog!:heartbeat

a trip to Europe!!!

As a "Former New Nurse" I will give you all my hindsight view...

I desperately wanted to buy my first "new" car...After thoroughly thinking over my options, I decided it would be better to wait until after we got a house, then buy a really good used car. For the first 8 months after graduation, we lived like we still had only one income. No take out, clipping mad amounts of coupons, buying reduced anything we could find, and putting all but $40 of my check in a separate acct. We were approved for a house and moved in much sooner that I could have ever thought possible. Our dream house has 4 bdrms, 3 full baths, an office, a florida room, and an inground pool. We are in an excellent school district, and a short commute from both of our jobs. We were fortunate enough to not have debt(with 3 kids) when I graduated. We laughed we walked around our new neighborhood that we were the only family that had two "beat up" cars in the driveway.

We were also able to obtain a 15 year mortgage, so after 5 years, we are more than 1/3 paid off :)

I got a Toyota Avalon, with leather(heated:)) seats, about 6 months after moving into our new home. I think our decision to continue to live frugal, was one of the smartest choices we ever made. We continue to live within our means, despite the economy. While I think it is great to reward your hard work with something fun, I challenge you prioritize the things you want most, and how soon you want them. Good luck to you all as you transition into your new lives as Nurses!

I too look forward to not being soooooo broke! I have 4 kids and an ex that has been laid off for almost 2yrs and my husband can only work so much. Going to school full time does not leave me any free time to work except on the weekends. So to be home every other Sat./Sun will be nice, paying my bills ON TIME and buying a house are high on my list after graduation. Also, I'd like to buy my hubby a newer truck for all the hard work he has put in the last few years since I have been in school. One more thing, won't it be nice to go shopping and not have to tally up your order prior to getting to the check-out so you know you have enough to cover it? Happy Day!! :yeah:

NICUlact8r, I KNOW your decision to live frugal was the smartest choice, it's also something I will be doing. As Dave Ramsey says "live like no one else so you can live like no one else" .. Mhm. Good for you :] And I appreciate you posting telling what DID when you became one.

Save a lot

pay down college debts

then go on a 2 week trip to vegas

buy my mom what ever

start my nephew a college fund

I would love love love to move out and get my own house :)

and I also promised my dad I would buy him entry into the WSOP lol that might take a while....

I haven't even been accepted into nursing school yet, but what the heck. I've always wanted to go to Disney World, so that's where I'll go in the future.
