You can go to kaplan.com and look there, they have review centers all over the state and I heard they are really good.

At my nursing school we just had a nursing panel with a bunch of nurse managers in the area, and this situation was brought up. Most of the managers said that if they had not gotten a reply within a week then they would take the offer off the table. But I am sure if you called them and asked for a day or two to make the decision they would be more than happy to give you that time. I also would not tell the phone interview you have another job offer but I am sure you could ask them the time table. Good luck with everything!

I wanted to answer some questions about clinical scholars (I have to answer it on here because I do not have enough posts to send a PM yet-sorry!) I did not do the student residency program provided by UMMS but I did work there as a tech. For clinical scholars you need at least a 3.0 GPA and write a short essay, you then apply to any unit you would like to work on. This all usually happens towards the end of your second to last semester. As a part of clinical scholars you agree to work on that unit for a specific amount of time after graduation. You get $2000 for 12 months and $5000 for 18 months, this is applied to your tuition for your senior year. feel free to ask any more questions!

Yes, I was talking about the clinical scholars program offered by UMMS, I am not sure if any other hospitals offer something like this.

I will be working in Shock Trauma and the only reason I got the job was because of clinical scholars. I know UMMS is not hiring new grads and I'm not sure about the other hospitals. I have heard from several people that lancaster county, in PA is hiring new grads- if you don't mind the commute.

I live in the MD area and I got a job on the unit where I am a tech. I liked this unit and the hospital in general because they have a great new grad program and excellent tuition reimbursement. I started to apply for jobs in december/january and I'm glad I did it then because a lot of people are having a hard time. Most of the hospitals in the area aren't even hiring new grads any more.

I need some help. I am in my final semester in school, I graduate in May and right now I am in the middle of my practicum. I am kinda freaking out a bit; let me give you some background. I am doing my practicum on a trauma critical care floor, I am a tech there now and I will be working on the IMC side upon graduation. I also am in the scholars program which means they are paying my last semester of school and in return I have to work on the unit for one year. I have only done about 5 shifts of my practicum and I am starting to think I made a mistake. I get nervous every time before I go in, sometimes I even start to worry about it days in advance. At the most I only have 2 patients and I feel like I can barely handle that, I don't know what I am going to do when I am on the IMC side and have to care for 3-4 patients. I feel like I don't know how to do anything and when my preceptor asks me questions I just go blank. I am an extremely shy person and I get super nervous and worry all shift about giving report and talking to doctors. I am in the room all shift with the patients and I still feel like I know nothing about them. Nursing is all I have ever wanted to do, maybe critical care just isn't for me, but I am locked in for a year and no one is really hiring. I know this unit is a great place to start off in but I am just scared. I don't really know what this post is meant to accomplish but I needed to vent. I am absolutely petrified about actually being a nurse and doing everything alone. I try to talk to my family and my boyfriend and they just say its nerves and it will get better with time.

I would love love love to move out and get my own house :) and I also promised my dad I would buy him entry into the WSOP lol that might take a while....

Hi everyone! My name is Julie I graduate in May and if all goes well with the NCLEX I will be working in July at the best trauma facility around! I've been really nervous lately I dont know if its about the boards or all the responsibility of being a nurse but I guess I am just more excited than anything :)

They may have changed things from when I was in my first semester, but when I was there they split everyone into different groups. Each group had the labs at different times/days so there is no way to really figure out the set schedule until you know what group you are in. and about the clinical, its only 2 days towards the end of the semester so its not that big of a deal. Hope this helps a little.
